Prologue: Scene opens to the interior of the "Valiant Gym" in Little Rock, Arkansas. Sitting on one of the blue polyester mats inside of the yoga room is a woman. Attired in a black t-shirt that snuggles against her figure, black leggings and white Adidas sneakers, the woman has her blonde hair tied up into a ponytail with the ruby red of her lipstick glistening in the light. Cross-legged, she is unaware of the man who has just entered the room, heading straight in her direction. This man is in his late forties and wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans held up with a caramel belt and black cowboy boots. Steeping to the right, he glances directly down at her.
"I thought I'd find you here, Katherina," he remarks, inhaling. "It's been done."
The woman tilts her head upon hearing that voice. Giving the man a warm smile as the scene fades.
Scene 1: Scene re-opens to the woman, as she gazes at the man. Noticing the sincerity within them combined with his friendly smile. Kneeling down to her level, the man holds his own stare, attempting to pry deep into her soul.
"Thank you, Ryan," she whispers to him, causing his smile to widen.
"I told you it was going to work out,".he replies as the young woman nods her head. "You're made for the business."
The woman laughs at that assertion. Not out of disagreement but of knowledge and confidence in herself. It is something that he has instilled in her during their time working together. Taking her from being shy and nervous to somebody who believes in herself. Who knows she is ready for anything that could be thrown her way.
"You're just saying that." she quips. Although confident, she had her doubts Ryan truly wants her to leave the gym. After all, she has been his best student from the first day she arrived. "I know you want me to stay..."
Ryan raises his right hand, placing his index finger to his pursed lips. "Of course I mean it," he remarks, almost insulted that she would imply otherwise.
"Honest?" she pleadingly asks.
"Yes. I would like you to stay, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity," he states, inhaling as he continues to stare at her. "A chance for you to show that you belong in the limelight. That you are every bit as gifted as I know you are. The IIW is the perfect spot for you to begin your career,"
She smiles, uncrossing her legs and stretching them out so that her heels are pressed against the edge of the mat. Her heart warms as she thinks about the pride Ryan has in her. "I won't let you down, Ryan."
"I know you won't." he remarks, more like her mentor and trainer than as a friend, before matching her smile with one of his own. Pushing himself up, he takes three short steps back, retaining eye contact but preparing to head to the lobby and meet his next class. A class that is starting in ten minutes.
"I promise," her voice lowered to a whisper once more, she gave him a knowing nod. Realizing that as much as he would like to stay and talk to her, he is still a trainer and there are students here. Those who are in a similar position to Katherine when she first arrived. Turning, he begins to make his way toward the exit, but not before asking "You want to come help?" receiving a shake of the head in response.
"Not today, sorry. I have to finish packing." she remarks, glancing at him. He simply nods in understanding before continuing to walk.
"Alright," he states, continuing with "Don't be a stranger, okay? You're welcome here any time."
"I won't be," she states, pushing herself up off the mat as Ryan walks off, the scene fading on the deep look within her eyes.
Scene 2: Scene opens to Katherine, sitting atop a black one seat matte couch inside of the place she has called home for the last two years. Her apartment in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is wearing a white cotton t-shirt, denim jeans that fit tightly against her hips and legs with white Nike sneakers completing the outfit. Her eyes are circled with black eyeliner and mascara and her ruby red lipstick once again glistens in the light bathing the room. Her face tells the story of her mindset at this moment in time. Relaxed and excited about what is ahead of her, but also nervous. Shuffling her body against the seat, she stares out the window in front of her, looking at the garden.
"This is what I've been working toward. This is what I have dreamed about..." her remarks more of a message to herself than directed at anybody, she lets a gentle breath float from her lips. "So close to obtaining it...
Her face beginning to relax, she slinks back in the seat. Reflecting on just how far she has come. How much she has progressed from the moments where she thought this would be impossible. Where she didn't know if she would ever get the chance to showcase her abilities. Especially not on a platform as substantial as the IIW. Even less this early into her career.
"This is my chance to show the world that I belong here. That I am more than just a student of Ryan's. Show them why I was the best in the gym and why I will be the best in the ring. Why I will rise above. Why I will stand tall in the spotlight," her words are more confident, she straightens her posture. "Just as I was born to be. I'm not just another pretty face or another wannabe. I am the one who will revolutionize this industry." she takes a deep breath. "I dare anyone to stop me."
A wry smile on her face, she continues staring out the window. Watching as her neighbor, a man in his early twenties, jogs along the sidewalk in front of her home. A routine he has partaken in since before she even moved into this apartment. Gently shaking her head, she reminds herself that there was a reason she was sitting here. It wasn't simply so that she could enjoy the sights and sounds around her.
"This isn't anything against anyone on the roster," she affirms. "I may not know you now, but I know that you are all talented. That you are all just as worthy as I am of being here. I know you will all offer me the competition that I seek... but you will all end up failing. None of you are going to be able to stop me from reaching the top. I didn't stop while training and I don't plan on stopping now."
Her smile becomes more pronounced, as she softly laughs.
"I can't wait to step into the ring and show you," her statement confident, she stands, walking around the left-hand side of the couch and toward the trophy that is positioned in the middle of an oak shelf in the corner of the room. It is from her days as a cheerleader, when her high school won the AAA state championships in eighth grade. "You'll have a friend soon, I promise,"
Her smile turning into a smirk, she continues her walk around the room as the scene fades.
Scene 3: Scene returns to the gym, where Ryan sits in his office, atop his chocolate brown, having finished training his final class of the day twenty minutes ago. Scrolling through his notes, he makes sure that everything is accurate before glancing out of the corner of his eye. Noticing the picture of a smiling Katherine with a backdrop of the gym's "Hall of fame". Taken last year, it was for the annual picture day the gym has, where all trainees have their photos taken, with the potential of one day joining those already on the wall.
"I know you'll kill it." he whispers. "You always have. I'm so proud of you."
Turning his head back to face the screen, he closes the final word document, swiveling his body to stare at the picture and the cream manila folder under it.
"Now, it's time for you to go out there and give the world the vixen you have always been." knowing that she won't hear his words of encouragement, he chuckles before gently sliding the folder and picture back with the rest of the group.
The scene fades with Ryan once again looking at the computer screen.
Scene 4: Scene opens to Katherine sitting atop the wine leather chair in her kitchen. A seat gifted to her by her mom when she moved to this apartment and one that she will bring with her when she begins her travels with the IIW.
"Tomorrow, it begins." she states to herself. "Tomorrow, you can call me the future of wrestling. The one who will stand atop the pack. The vixen who will rule over the world." her eyes focused in their stare, the serious expression on her face matches the near deadpan nature of her delivery. "If you don't believe me now, you will soon enough."
Allowing a smile similar to the one from earlier to appear, she rests her forearms against the oak table in front of her.
"Mom, dad... I told you I was going to make it in this industry. I promised that I would carry on the foundations you set. That I would make sure the world knows our name." her words more candid in nature, she lets out a breath. "This is just the beginning."
She continues to look forward, imagining herself standing atop a podium, holding the IIW women's championship above her head as photographers attempt to snap pictures of her. It is where she hopes to be someday.
"Good luck," she states. "You'll need it."
The scene then fades on another close up shot. This time of her entire face and the focused energy hidden within it.
Epilogue: Tomorrow, she begins her journey into the IIW. The first step on her quest to become the champion she had always dreamed of being. Just how far can she go? Who will be the first obstacle for her to face? Is she truly ready for what lies ahead?
"I thought I'd find you here, Katherina," he remarks, inhaling. "It's been done."
