Chloe sits on a chair inside of her hotel room, her luggage strewn about. Smiling, she pushes her hair back.
"I couldn't be happier with my performance on Combat. Eden gave me the exact fight I was looking for. She showed me why she was every bit the rising talent she had been claimed as. She proved just why we Aussies are some of the toughest wrestlers in the entire world and why when you put 2 of us in the ring against one another, we are always gonna put on a show."
She laughs.
"And most importantly, I walked out with the victory. Nothing brings a smile more to my face than going out there against somebody who I see as a hero. Someone I wanted to be like and finding a way to walk out with the victory. Show that I am ready to take my place as the next woman up. The next to ascend up the rankings and reach the top."
"I know it isn't going to be easy. I know that I am gonna have bumps in the road on my way to the top and I'm ready for them. I want the turbulence and the roller coasters, for that is what makes wrestling its most fun. It is when the challenges arrive and I must do what I can in order to push through them, that I am at my best."
She smiles, using her foot to pull a bag closer to her.
"I live for those challenges, and this week, I have another one that I must cross off, when I step into the ring with Melissa Thornton. A woman who like me, is new to the world of wrestling, and who like me, won her first match. I respect her for coming in and making an impact. Embracing the sport, for I know how hard it can be to go out there when you're trying to get your feet wet. Trying to make your way within the sport."
She sighs, leaning back.
"Come Riot act though, we will be standing on opposite sides of the ring. You still trying to learn all you can about this sport, me going out there to move myself one step closer to where I want to be. I plan on going out there and giving not just you, but the crowd another taste of what I am capable of between the ropes."
She pauses, unzipping the bag and pulling out a bottle of water.
"I just hope you are willing to give me the same. I need you to give me the same, Melissa, so that I can know where I stand. So that I can say I truly am rising to the top."
She smiles.
"I'll give you the same."
END.

It had been everything she expected it to be.
That is what Melissa had thought following her first ever wrestling match as she sat atop a lemon-yellow sofa inside of her hotel room, the morning after completing her first wrestling match. She slightly groans, the dull pain that pulsates throughout her body a reminder that she wasn't just a kickboxing or martial arts instructor anymore. This wasn't just another class where she would have ample time to recover and could hold herself back intentionally, the focus being on education and maintaining fitness, but rather, about proving herself. Showing that she is more than just a fitness instructor and a teacher, but somebody capable of stepping up in her own right. She lets out a gentle sigh, remembering the final words Alicia told her when she was preparing to head to the airport.
I know you can succeed. she remarks, those very words floating into the vacant space surrounding her. Her lips curling upward, she hopes that Alicia, Michelle and everybody else back at the gym were watching her. Cheering her on as she promoted them. Put the gym at the forefront of people's minds, as they saw what somebody who taught there could do.
Yet she knew she had a long way to go if she wanted to reach the pinnacle of the sport. If she wanted to be able to say she had truly succeeded in her quest to become a wrestler. Aaliyah had shown her that by challenging her. Forcing her to think on her feet and come up with solutions every time Landerson had threatened to gain the advantage. Just as she had seen during multiple kickboxing matches in the past. She was thankful for that, as it let her truly understand what she needed to improve on. What she would need to make her focus if she is to develop herself in the ring, and what tips she could give Kaylee the next time they talk.
Her eyes glancing around the room, she notices a silver picture frame on the left-hand side wall, a glass sheet covering the picture within it. One of the heart of Atlanta and the bustling activities that go on during an average day. From people walking along the sidewalk to cars driving up and down the road, to businesses becoming hives of activity, it is a snapshot of the city and all it has to offer. She has never been here prior to her arrival earlier in the day, so a picture like this allows her to at least somewhat understand what the city is about. Although she had traveled, both with her family and on her own, it had mostly been to Florida or the Northeast. Often to see family.
That is what excited her the most about becoming a wrestler. The ability to travel to places that she had previously only ever heard about and experience them for herself. It has always been a dream of hers to travel and experience new cultures, so for her, it makes the inevitable pain her body will go through each and every time she steps into the ring worth it. She continues to glance around the room, the snow-white walls the most prominent sight, followed by the other pictures that adorn them and the forty-seven-inch Television situated about eight feet in front of her also coming into view. Reclining against the cool leather of the couch, she knows that in a matter of days, she will have to step into the ring again. She will have her second match, against another opponent. A person who she had seen at Combat, but otherwise knew nothing about. Chloe Morrison.
"This is just another chance for me to find my feet. Get myself comfortable in the sport and continue to bring the Vermillion gym into the light," she whispers to herself, reiterating the primary purpose behind making this move. She wants the world to know the talent that comes from the gym. Trained by two people she considers the best in the world at their jobs, even if she is biased in thinking that. She knows how much dedication they put in to ensure that the children have as good a foundation both in terms of their kickboxing and martial arts but growing into fully well-adjusted people. It is something they always took pride in and it always warmed her heart and brought a twinkle to her eyes whenever a child would tell her she had positively influenced their lives. Even just thinking about it causes her brow to rise and her smile to widen.
I miss them, so much. She internally remarks, referring not just to the children, but Alicia and Michelle. She even misses the janitors and the freshly polished lemon scent of the gym each morning when she would arrive. But I know this is for the best.
There is one thing that is nagging at her, however. Something that no matter what she tries, she just cannot escape. Eating away at her every waking moment, causing her to often have to sing herself to sleep, in the hopes that it will at least drift away for enough time so that she can put it aside and at least try to lock it away.
Olivia.
She knew Florida would bring back memories of her. The times they shared and their walks along the beach. It had been their childhood, but it was no more. She had fallen away, and no matter what Melissa had tried. No matter how much Melissa wished to save her, she had only sunk further and further. Yet she remained in Melissa's mind. Her heart, in the hopes that one day, they would reconnect. She had considered calling her, if for no other reason than to reach out, but couldn't bring herself too. Each time she had tried, her hands had quivered, and her body had tightened to the point where it was difficult for her to breathe, causing her to put it on the backburner. The nagging, scratching sensation hasn't relented, causing her previously elevated brow to lower and her face to droop as small tears began to run down her cheek.
One day... She whispers. I promise things will be right again. I'll make them right.
Her words hang in the air, as she takes a deep breath, sucking up as much air as she can before expelling it just as deeply. The glimmer in her eyes fading, she closes them, then re-opens them in the hopes that it will prevent the tears from streaming down her face and at least allow her to get her mind back on track. Divert her attention away from Olivia for now, as this is not the time to initiate a rekindling of their relationship. The last time she tried still lingers, cutting deep inside of her as she heard Olivia tell her that she could not remember a moment they truly shared together. She felt like a stranger at that moment, and does not wish to be haunted in that manner again.
Not when she had her new career to think about.
Wiggling so that her back is upright, she remarks "I need to be prepared for anything Chloe might throw my way," as she runs through possible scenarios in her mind. Something she picked up from a coach backstage at Combat. They had pulled her aside to let her know that she needed to react better and prepare for everything, because anything and everything can happen in this sport. "I just hope I can. Otherwise, I know that I won't be the one walking out with the victory."
Wiping her eyes, she stares at the black screen of the Television, attempting to manifest some thoughts. Something that would indicate what she should be saying. How she should be approaching the match. Talking was the one thing she had no idea about when it came to the sport, even if she had watched tapes on it over the past few weeks, in the hopes that it would give her direction. Something to latch onto in the hopes she could muster up some statements. Thoughts on what awaits her as she continues to progress.
"I hope my actions are enough. I just want to go out there and fight." she remarks, her most common statement to herself whenever she thinks about her career. Her matches in the ring. "Let everything sort itself out."
That's the way it has to be. Everything will come in time, she just needs to go out there and do what she does best. That is, fight.
