2 weeks ago It’s been ten years, when will it get easier? When will Edda not wake up in a cold sweat remembering that night? When will she stop being afraid that it will happen again? When will her heart not beat fast right before a match and her head feel like a balloon? Maybe when she finally has a match again, one where the opponent does not forfeit. Edda sat at the bar thinking about all of this nursing her corona. A terrible beer, she always wanted one when she was in a bad mood. Getting all hyped up, excited to wrestle for the first time in a decade on an aircraft character, only for Ichunko to come out and forfeit, it was such a let down. All the endorphins had nowhere to go. Grimjack had been right, he said Ichunko would forfeit. He had recommended that Edda beat her down anyway, like Allesia did, but that wasn’t Edda’s style. She didn’t need that on her conscience. It’d be hypocritical, someone did that to her once. Ten years ago. Attacked and injured her when she was not in a position to defend herself. That’s not very different than attacking an opponent who gave up of their free will. But still, it was a waste of her time. What was up with the IIW? Intense International Wrestling? Not very intense to give up. To hand out wins for Edda’s record without her having to do anything. Sure, it was a paycheck, but she wasn’t here for money. She was chasing something else. Meaning. “Deep in thought again?A voice broke her out of her thoughts. It was Grimjack. He had a habit of breaking her train of thought. Surprising her. It was a way to train her, to keep her on her toes, to get her ready for a fight where surprise attacks can and do happen. She looked at him with a grin on her face, not wanting him to know he startled her.Wilcox: Not really. Just relaxing.Grimjack: Good, good. Relax and get ready for training tonight. Grimjack’s dreads swayed as he talked animatedly. He was excited and Edda knew why. His brand of “training” was dishwashing and mopping the floors of the bar after last call.Wilcox: I need some more real training. I might have to actually fight in my next match in IIW. I hope so anyway! She said she hoped so because she knew she had to project bravery, or at least Grimjack would expect her to be upset that her last match was a forfeit from Ichunko. But privately it came as a bit of relief. As hyped as she was for the match, she was glad no fighting had to take place. You never know what might go wrong in a wrestling match. You never know what kind of injury you might suffer. But she knew that if she was going to get back into this business, she’d have to fight, it was that simple. Grimjack started to laugh.Grimjack: Haha- well you’re right. You need to train. You don’t want to overtrain though. You don’t want to get an injury in training camp and then have to drop out of the match. In fact I think that’s why Ichunko keeps forfeiting, she’s hiding an injury and doesn’t want to tell management about it. But that’s none of our business. I’ve been injured before. Badly. I’ve broken both arms and both legs.Wilcox: Really? How did that happen?Grimjack: At HWA’s first Last Man Standing Pay Per View, a guy named Zack Tyler threw me off the top of a cage. Wilcox: You broke both arms and legs from that?Grimjack: Well it was a triple cage, and there was a cattle prod at the top. Come on, you never saw that match?Wilcox: When was it?Grimjack: 1999.Wilcox: I think I was too young then. I was born in 1994. Grimjack: Jesus! Well get to watching it, watch all my matches, if you want to learn. Wilcox: I would if HWA was on any streaming service.Grimjack: I’ll hook you up with some DVDs. Wilcox: Ok, I’ll watch them. But can’t you teach me even better by, you know, training me directly.Grimjack: OK, OK. Well I’m busy till 2AM, you know that. Wilcox: Why are you running this bar full time anyway? Hire some more people. I thought you were going to get back into wrestling yourself? I mean you know why I sought you out-Grimjack: I did try to get back into the game. I fought robots mostly. But it’s dangerous right now. I got back into this world in the first place because someone was targeting old HWA wrestlers. I had to confront that head on.Wilcox: Danny Starr right? That’s who was behind One Night Stand?Grimjack: He was yes.Wilcox: He was arrested and then committed suicide. So why do you think it’s dangerous to get back into wrestling?Grimjack: That’s the cover story. They thought he was dead for 15 years before, then he came back and tried to kill me and my friends. Fool me once…Edda tried to hide her annoyance. Grimjack acted crazy sometimes, trying to convince her of wild conspiracy theories. She could tell it was one of the reasons his career had ended and he’d gone from a millionaire athlete to barely making ends meet tending bar. He must have pissed off his friends and colleagues with all his crazy talk. But still, there was no denying he had somehow stumbled onto an all time great fighting style. When Edda had watched the One Night Stand pay per view a year ago she had been transfixed by the sight of the thin dreadlocked man submitting mercenary after mercenary with his deadly arms bars. It was as if a whirling dervish had been released. It was high art really, akin to a Vulcan neck pinch, the way he went to each man and ripped each of their arms out of their sockets. Brutal, yet effective. That was why she had decided then and there to get back into wrestling, and to seek out this man to train her.Wilcox: Ok, well I’m heading out. I’ll be back at 2.Grimjack: Ok but don’t get into any trouble.Wilcox: You know me.Today Edda’s match on 11/28/21 teaming with Robin Vengeance against Lien Xinya and Katia Fyre did not go well. It ended in a loss that was mainly Edda’s fault. She froze up in the ring. Xinya sprayed green mist into her face and Fyre gave her a Tiger driver onto a motorcycle knocking her out to end the match. It was a poor showing in her first real match after Ichunko had forfeited. Now Edda stood at a crossroads. She had a decision to make. Would she give up and run away with her tail between her legs, or learn from the loss and come back stronger? In the backroom of Pleasant Jack’s Edda is seen training with Grimjack. He is attempting to she her how to get out of an armbar that he has placed her in.Wilcox: Ow that hurts!Grimjack: It’s supposed to, I could break your arm out of the socket right now if I wanted. I won’t of course. But the good thing is no one in IIW is a submission expert like me so you don’t have to worry about that happening in six seconds. But if you don’t know how to break out of a simple armbar your matches won’t last much longer and it won’t be because you win them.Wilcox: So how do I break out?Grimjack: Twist your arm the other way. Just-Suddenly Edda does just what he said and uses her momentum to spin her arm out of his hold and makes Grimjack flip over and landing up against a punching bag.Grimjack: Jesus! What was that!Wilcox: You said to break out of it. Grimjack: Yeah but I didn’t mean-Wilcox: You’re not the only one who goes easy on someone when you’re just sparring.Grimjack stands up and dusts himself off.Grimjack: Well don’t get over confident either. It’s great that you’re learning something. It’s never easy. No match is easy. Even when Ichunko forfeited, that might have been a trick and she might have tried to sucker punch you. Like Xinya did.Wilcox: Yeah she caught me with that green mist, I still have trouble seeing out of my left eye after that. But I guess it was legal because they spinned some wheel and then made it a parking lot brawl match. I feel like that screwed me.Grimjack: Can’t make excuses. Anyways, what’s done is done. Learn from that. At least you got a real match under your belt, and you learned a little something about some of the wrestlers in IIW. Obviously Xinya and Fyre are pretty good. You might meet them again down the road and be able to extract a little vengeance. Speaking of that, you should also have learned a little about Robin Vengeance. And she’s in this Battle Royal coming up at Noreaster.Wilcox: Yeah I feel a little bad, like I let her down. She did well in our match, it’s my fault we lost. I’m not used to being in tag team matches though, and didn’t have any chemistry with her. And Xinya and Fyre were a tag team together for a while I guess.Grimjack: Yeah they call themselves the Triumvirate and their third member is Solace Tatum who is pretty high up in the IIW and if she beats Jolie Vexx at Noreaster she’ll be the new GM of IIW. So yeah, they’re a pretty powerful stable. The truth is, you need allies in this business. I was kind of hoping you could form a team with Robin Vengeance, that’s why I set that match up.Wilcox: Really? Well I guess I fucked that up.Grimjack: Well just try to show her your skills in the battle royal, put on a good showing. This is a marathon, not a sprint. She’s involved in RMI, Tommy Romeo’s management company. I know him from back in the day. It’d be good if you get him to represent you, but he doesn’t work with any old jobber. Show him and the rest of the IIW you have what it takes, starting with a win in this battle royal at Noreaster. Also, by the way, I entered you into the Ice Crown tournament which takes place next month. That features men and women so be ready for that.Wilcox: When were you planning on telling me that?Grimjack: Well, a match once a month is an ok schedule, it shouldn’t be a problem, What do you think this is? Play time? You’ll have a match after that most likely, I hope this isn’t a spoiler alert.Wilcox: Ok, well let’s get ready then. Any other submission moves you can teach me? I’m ready now.The scene fades out as Grimjack starts showing her different armbar techniques.

Lauren Edwards: The Star Shines Bright.
[[The scene opens to Lauren, seared atop a black leather three-seat sofa within the confines of the home of her friend Sarah, who had invited her to stay there whilst she was back in New York, seeing as her and Justin had vacated their apartment and new tenants had been brought in. Attired in a white Nike t-shirt, denim jeans and black/scarlet Nike sneakers, Lauren had only landed back in New York sic hours prior and still has pulsating redness in her eyes from the jetlag. Blinking, she drowsily looks around the room, attempting to regain her bearings and re-acquaint herself with her surroundings, even though she had last been in this house only nine days prior.
Such is the state of her mind, considering both her new career and the jetlag. Her eyes glazed over, she blinked again before turning her head and staring toward the window at the front of the living room. Looking out at the garden Sarah has created outside, her way of giving the house a little more exterior warmth and making it more friendly appears to passerby who might wish to take a peek at the garden. Plus, it gives her something to do when she has free time, which between college and her job as a waitress, isn't much. It is indeed that waitressing job at The Mission Restaurant that Sarah is at presently, meaning that Lauren is here alone.
Sighing, she continues to look out the window with her glazed stare, attempting to conjure something up in order to break the harrowing silence that is filling the air. A silence that is enough to drive a person crazy, or even trap them within their own thoughts, something that by the fact that Lauren's head has begun to droop ever so slightly, could very well be what is happening to her presently. Reaching into her left jean pocket with her left hand, she manages to extract her phone, pulling it toward her eyes and unlocking it, before recoiling slightly due to the light that emanates from it. Looking down at the time, she winces before letting out a pronounced sigh at the realization that there is no chance that Justin would have landed in Manchester yet, seeing as his flight only left the airport four and a half hours ago.
Unfortunately, as she had suspected she would when the two called each other a few days ago, she had missed him and as such, didn't get to say goodbye to him before he travelled to Manchester in order to begin his own journey within the halls of the IIW. Nor does she expect that she will get the chance to meet with him again soon, though she is hopeful that they will at some point. She doesn't realize how much she misses him already, even if she realizes that this is the best move for the two of them. The best way that they can establish their names and ensure that everybody realizes that they don't just call themselves the hottest and best talents for no reason. It's because that is exactly what they are. Even if it means they will be away from one another more often than not. As the proverb goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Tilting her head upward once more, she returns her stare in the direction of the window before feeling her chest slowly rising and falling with each breath that she takes.]]
Lauren: Don't worry girls. I'll be there, shining nice and bright for you when we step into the ring at Nor'easter. I will be the cyclone that they warned you about, ready to sweep you away under the brightest lights and showing you that the stars truly do shimmer in the night sky and that each and every one of you will be left with no choice but to admit that you just weren't up to the challenge. That moment got too big for you and you retreated back into your shells.
[[Her eyes still glazed over, she blinks in an attempt to collect any excess water that may have formed within them, before straightening her body and gently pressing her back against the leather cushion of the couch.]]
Lauren: It's okay though. I'm nervous too, but I know that this is where I am destined to be. I know that it has already been written in the stars that I am the one who shall stand tall. That you five are just the names that have been put in front of me. Names that have been designed in order to showcase my talents to the world. Names there, to provide competition, yet ultimately come up short in your own quests, left to watch as on my first night, I superseded you and took the glory you thought was within your grasp away. Leaving you with nothing but the sensation of emptiness and despair that you just couldn't get the job done. That no matter how hard you had worked. Or no matter how well you thought you had prepared, it wasn't enough. It was never going to be enough.
[[Softly laughing, a slight frown begins to appear across her face as she slides herself back, so that her buttocks are gently pressed where the back and seat cushions meet and her back is against the back cushion. As if she was against a wall.]]
Lauren: It's a feeling that will hit you hard. It's a feeling that deep down, I know you're experiencing right now, even if you don't wish to admit it. I was the same way the first time I stepped into the dojo, eleven months ago. I didn't know if all the effort I had put in. My training back home in Key West under Andrea was going to prepare me for what Ryan had planned. If my knowledge was going to guide me, or if I was simply going to fall by the wayside. If I was going to be left behind and become just another fish within the ocean.
[[Another pronounced sigh leaves her lips, as she softly smiles. Her lips sparkling as the light reflects off her ruby red lipstick.]]
Lauren: Yet from the moment I stepped into the dojo, I realized something. That this was just another step that I needed to take. That if I was going to get to where I wanted to be in life. If I was going to turn wrestling into a career and enter the industry, then this was the sort of adversity that I needed to face. That I would need to prove I could overcome, otherwise what would be the point? Why would I come this far, why would I even enter the dojo if I was simply going to run away the first time someone beat me? Or the first time I had blood flowing from my mouth?
[[Pursing her lips, her eyes begin to glimmer.]]
Lauren: I wouldn't. I would have settled for my scholarship in biological and biochemical studies and focused my energy on that, whilst seeing my stint within this field as just another thing to have in my back pocket. Nice to know in case I need it, but not something that I would actively use in life. The fact that I am here. The fact that I am speaking to you five right now and only a week or so out from stepping into that ring for the first time should be all you need to see, in order to know that I persevered through it. That this was the field I wanted to find myself in. That this is what I had been working toward my entire life, and now, I'm not going to let you five stop me. I'm not going to let any of you attempt to be adversity. To pretend as if you can be the ones that dim the star before it even has a chance to light up the sky.
[[Leaning forward, her glare is fixated on the window, as she slightly tugs down on her shirt with her hands. Attempting to re-cover the skin that has been exposed.]]
Lauren: I hope you understand that when we step into the ring, I'm walking in there with one thing and one thing only on my mind. Victory, and what it shall entail in order to achieve it. I plan on snuffing out any light that might emanate from you, before it has a chance to sparkle. For this is my dream. this is my desire and there is no place for you within the halls of my empyrean.
[[Flashing a soft smile, the scene fades with Lauren leaning back against the couch once more, waiting for Sarah to return from work.]]
[[Six hours later, Sarah and Lauren are sitting on the same couch as Lauren had been on prior, watching "Christmas Cupid" in order to get them into the festive mood. Whilst Lauren is wearing the same t-shirt, jeans and sneaker combination she was when she was talking earlier, Sarah is wearing a black low cut t-shirt, black denim jeans and black Converse sneakers and has her left leg draped across her right thigh, whilst in the process of fixing her hair. The duo's focus is partially fixated on the screen, partially fixated on their phones. Trawling through social media and seeing what has been going on in the world of her friends and family in Lauren's case, and seemingly awaiting some texts from either her co-workers or other friends in Sarah's.
A frown appearing between her eyes, Lauren notices an old photo of one of her friends back home in Key West, taken at the Fort Zachary Taylor National Park and with her and Lauren standing in front of a row of about seven trees together. Judging by the way the two look in the picture, Lauren would have to have been around six or seven at the time. Lauren is wearing a red t-shirt, jeans and black Adidas sneakers in the photo, whereas her friend is wearing a navy blue jacket, denim jeans and black/silver Nike sneakers. Yet it's not the picture alone that has caught her attention. It is also the caption written by the friend atop the picture.
"Soon, this beautiful girl will be stepping into the wrestling ring for the first time. I always knew you would make it," as a soft smile crosses her face. She was surprised, not necessarily about the news reaching home but about the fact that Michelle knew about it. Although the two had a mutual interest in the sport, she knew that Michelle didn't watch or pay attention to wrestling as much as she had used to. In fact, the last time she can remember the two watching any form of wrestling was in junior year, Yet here she is, posting about Lauren's impending debut in a manner that earnestly warms Lauren's heart. A manner that causes small little butterflies to form within the pits of her stomach. If she were alone, she would be squealing, such is the joy that is filling her currently... and she hopes that Michelle will be watching from her apartment in Tampa when Lauren takes center stage at Nor'easter. Continuing to scroll, she hasn't realized that Sarah is glancing at her, having noticed the small dimples appearing on her cheeks.]]
Sarah: Justin message you? I know that smile...
[[Hearing her, Lauren looks up, gently shaking her head.]]
Lauren: I wish haha, but no. A friend from back home posted a really cute picture of us from when we went camping together.
[[Sarah shoots a soft smile in Lauren's direction, as the latter tilts the screen so that she can see the message and the caption, causing Sarah's own smile to widen in pride, even though she doesn't even know Michelle. All she knows is that she is close to Lauren and that this message has made Lauren turn into a giddy child, as if she was at she was at a slumber party.]]
Sarah: Is she close to you?
[[Lauren nods excitedly.]]
Lauren: Yes! I've known her since second grade. Her and I would go camping every summer to Fort Zachary, which is where this was taken. [[She lets out a longing sigh]] I miss those days...
[[Sarah places her right hand within Lauren's own, attempting to give her a sense of comfort whilst she reflects on those trips. Especially the times when the two would stroll through the forest and admire their surroundings, letting everything soak in under the radiant sunlight. Feeling her eyes begin to flash as she zones out, she tilts the screen back toward her. Thinking only of those trips and how it was there that she felt truly free. Unrestrained by school or even her own family.]]
Sarah: That sounds awesome. I remember when mom and dad would take my brothers and I camping in the mountains every summer. It was majestic and allowed us to see the world for the true beauty that it is.
[[Lauren doesn't pay attention as she presses her lips together, the exhalations that leave her body becoming audible as she does. Yet Sarah doesn't mind, nor does she attempt to grab her friend's attention, understanding that she is having a blissful moment, instead turning her focus back to the movie. Feeling her chest continually rising and falling with each breath that she takes, the one who has coined herself as the "Goddess Slayer" turns her head in the direction of the TV, having been watching the movie out of the corner of her eye. It's not the sort of movie she would typically watch, but Sarah had a copy of it on her shelf, and it was the first Christmas oriented movie that they laid their eyes on. Plus, it's something to have on in the background at least. Slowly rising, Sarah glances across at Lauren, her eyebrows rising slightly as she purses her lips.]]
Sarah: You want some popcorn?
[[Lauren nods her head before adjusting her body slightly as she attempts to find a comfortable position on the couch.]]
Lauren: Yeah. Grab me a coke too please.
[[Sarah softly laughs before beginning to make her way toward the hall in order to get two bowls of popcorn, a coke for Lauren and a sprite for herself, as Lauren follows her with her eyes, her lips slightly curling before she turns her head back to the screen. Her phone neatly on her lap.]]
Lauren: I can see why Matt likes her...
[[She giggles, her words intentionally whispered so that Sarah didn't hear them before she clears her throat.]]
Lauren: Just a matter of days now. I can feel it ticking. I can feel the excitement coursing through my veins... It's almost time. This is the greatest Christmas present anybody could have given me.
[[Her lips half-open, she throws her body back against the couch, feeling it almost tip over as her back slightly bounces off due to the force with which she had thrusted herself against it. Her back is jarring as she lets out a chuckle, forgetting how strong she can be at times and that she can't just throw herself onto the couch as she had when she was younger. Moving her shoulders back slightly, the tendons within them feeling as if they are in a tug-o-war battle, she tilts her head up to look at the ceiling.]]
Lauren: A white Christmas was once what I dreamt about... Being out in the snow and making snowmen and snow angels was what we all dreamed out... Now, that Christmas dream has turned golden. That dream has become one of sparkling lights and glory raining down from the heavens, as I walk through the halls of empyrean. That is what has fueled my dreams. That is what has guided me and brought life within my eyes.
[[Her hair flowing over the edge of the couch and toward the royal blue carpet, she lets out a blissful sigh. Each and every night since she made her announcement, she has pictured herself ascending, sitting atop the golden throne and with the IIW women's title draped across her shoulder. Looking out at the kingdom that she had created for herself. One where each and every other competitor is at her feet, looking up and into her piercing brown eyes. The corners of her mouth downturned, she lowers her gaze as her pursed lips become more pronounced.]]
Lauren: Soon... it will no longer be a dream, but rather reality. For the rite of passage is just beginning now, and once they all see it. Once they all bear witness to what shall take place, they will be left with no choice but to admit that the stars were right. That all of this was what had been destined to occur, and it will be beautiful, just like the snow as it falls from the sky.
[[Noticing Sarah precariously carrying the bowls and cans as she re-enters the lounge, Lauren gently grabs her phone, placing it on the cushion to her left, she stands and walks across toward her friend, extending her arms out in an offer of aid and assistance. Though Sarah simply flashes a smile at her. She is accustomed to this sort of balancing act, considering that she works as a waitress and has to juggle various orders whilst taking them to their respective tables all the time. Giggling, Lauren raises her right eyebrow as a small frown begins to appear across her face.]]
Lauren: You sure you're okay?
[[Sarah nods.]]
Sarah: Yeah. Thanks for the offer though.
[[Lauren smiles, turning back and heading to her seat as Sarah continues her balancing act, measuring each step so that she doesn't inadvertently stumble and trip over, landing flat on her face. That to her, would be embarrassing, even if it is only Lauren here to witness it. Her pride won't allow that to happen either, as she continues to navigate her way toward the lounge room before reaching the couch, where Lauren once more extends her arms out. This time grabbing one of the white ceramic bowls of popcorn and her can whilst Sarah turns her body and sits down as the scene fades with Lauren dipping her right hand into the bowl and scooping up a handful of popcorn..]]
[[Three days later, Lauren is sitting alone atop an oaken bench in Thornden park, looking out at the vast, vacant spaces surrounding her. Attired in a black Nike hooded jacket [[with the hood down]], jeans and black leather knee high boots. Braving the cold, she places her hands atop her thighs, focusing her gaze on the vacant parkland directly in her line of sight, including the row of four trees that line the back of the park. Pursing her lips, her focus is strictly on what awaits her at Nor'easter, and those who she must step into the ring against, if she is]]
Lauren: Six women shall walk into the ring at Nor'easter, each hoping. Praying that they can be the one to survive. That they can have their names written up in the bright lights as the victor. The one who shall open the next door for themselves and attain an opportunity at the Evolution championship... Yet only one of those six will be able to obtain it. Only one shall be able to outlast the others and have their name adorned within the lights. Written in the history book as the one who stood tall. The one who survived.
[[Nodding to herself, a slight frown appears across her face as she leans forward. Her eyes remaining fixated on the parkland.]]
Lauren: That one to survive will be me. For what you five don't seem to understand, is that this result has been destined from the moment the match was set and you were paired up against me. I'm not here to play games or to try and make it out as if I'm something or someone that I'm not. Nor am I going to sit here and sugarcoat the situation that you five shall find yourself in, hoping that you will dance around it and keep holding out for the moment where you can shine. Where you can say that you were able to walk into the mecca and win as the lights shine on you and the other five attempted to stand in your path, because that is what you are doing in this story.
[[Her makeup down immaculately, she curls her lips into a smirk as her mocha brown lipstick soaks into her lips.]]
Lauren: Let's be real. There is no chance of any of you being anything else but bit part players in this match, there for me to send over the top rope and to leave at my feet once it is all said and done. Just look at you and look at me. Yes, I'm aware that I am the youngest and the least experienced in this match, but that means nothing when we step between those ropes. All it is, is a measure for people who can't see the truth to attempt to use it as a means to put a "black mark" against my name. To claim that it will be what becomes my downfall.
[[She chuckles, having already seen a few posts on social media taking that route when talking about the match. Slightly sliding herself forward, she lets out a low "hmm" that vibrates throughout the air.]]
Lauren: I'd hate to break it to you, but I'm already the best athlete on this roster. I'm already the one who everybody's eyes are fixated upon, and you all know it too. It's why you seem to have this belief that you can outshine me, that you can win this match and at least hold off on being superseded, even though it has already occurred. It occurred the moment I stated that this was going to be where I make my home. The location where I begin my ascension upon the ranks of the wrestling world and prove that I am not just another pretty face. Another name that you can look at, but that I am the primary threat. I am the one who is going to slay all those who are put in my way. Those who believe that they can stand up to me and hold onto their place.
[[She then raises her right hand toward her jaw, her eyes widening as she feels a fire beginning to burn within them.]]
Lauren: Look at Latoya for example. She still seems to believe that she can win this match. That she still has value, even after I went out onto the stage and told her that she didn't. That her spot has been taken and that now, she has been left behind. Yet she stated nothing about it, because she knows deep down that I am telling the truth. She has realized that her attempts to talk herself up. Her attempts to portray herself as an underdog. A fairytale story that will persevere irrespective of what others might say. Or even what reality might forecast for her, and feed off the adulation of the fans. Feed off the bonds that she has created.
[[Sighing, a softer laugh than before leaves Lauren's lips as the fire continues to burn within her eyes.]]
Lauren: I'm sorry to tell you sweetie, but that's not how this works. Bonds don't mean anything within this industry, just as they didn't for me when I was working my ass off in the dojo. When I was pushing myself in body and spirit each and every day, all so that when I decided to enter this world, I could say that I had the best foundation possible. There is no such thing as a "friend" when you step between those ropes, something I thought you would have learned by now, but here you are. Talking about how you and Miss Landerson are going to team up. How you two are going to take over.
[[Her index finger now planted firmly against her jaw, she rests it within the open palm of her hand, slightly leaning forward.]]
Lauren: In order to do that, you're going to have to go through me. You're going to actually have to, for once, show that I was wrong about you. Prove that you are the fiery spirit and valiant warrior you claim to be, and your little friend is going to have to show that she isn't just here to live off her fathers name. That she too, can step into that ring and wrestle with the best of them. Prove that she belongs here, even if that means eliminating you in order to do so. I, on the other hand, have no such worries. I don't have anyone else in this match that I need to worry about. I don't have another person who will be in that ring that I have to care about and attempt to guide along until we get to the end. I only have myself, and the end goal. The destination that I need to think of. The lights and the cameras that shall be focused on me from the moment I step out onto the stage.
[[She then drops her hand, a slapping sound being heard as it hits her thigh.]]
Lauren: For you and Aaliyah, just as it is for Edda, Robin and Geri, that is what will spell your defeat. It will be me, who rises as the five of you fall. It will be me and I alone, who walks out of Madison Square Garden as the new number one contender to the Evolution championship. Don't worry though, I promise you will all hold a prominent place in the portraits. The pictures that circulate once it is all said and done. It's just not going to be at my expense.
[[Standing up, she flashes a wink before turning her body to the left and begins sauntering back toward the car park.]]
Lauren: This story is only just beginning...
[[The scene then fades as she continues to saunter off, arrogance and confidence evident in every step that she takes.]]

It was almost time for IIW’s Noreaster. Sally Bird was late for an interview but it wasn’t her fault. She was asked to interview someone named Edda Wilcox, a newbie. Her manager had said to meet at Madison Square Garden. That could mean anywhere. Inside Madison Square Garden? Out front? She asked in a reply call but got no answer. So annoying. She stood out front and was about to leave when she heard someone call her name.
“Sally! Sally Bird?”
She turned around and there was Edda. Looking shabby in dirty punk clothes and bright orange hair. What was this gimmick? Crusty.
Wilcox: There you are. I was looking all around for you.
They stood out front near the joint entrance to the Garden and Penn Station. New Yorkers milled around not recognizing the two women. Sally was annoyed but glad that now she could do her job which she was paid for.
Bird: Hello. Edda Wilcox right?
Wilcox: Right. Just call me Edda. So shall we do the interview?
Bird: Ok, it will look good her right in the heart of New York City. So of course I’d like to start off with this question: what brings you to IIW?
Wilcox: Well one thing and one thing only, to fight. I’m here to break some heads in. That’s the whole point. I have a vicious streak in me Sally. You see, violence can be healthy or unhealthy. It can lead you to self harm or jail time. This is sanctioned here in the IIW. Another healthy source of getting the violence out of my system was music. Punk music can be violent, the way you scream or attack the guitar with power chords. I played in a band for years but it just wasn’t doing it anymore.
Bird: What do you mean?
Wilcox: Can I talk without being interrupted? Thanks. As I was saying, it just wasn’t doing it anymore. It wasn’t scratching that itch. I’d stage dive and crowd surge and jump into the mosh pit but hipster crowds are too weak. A wrestling crowd will get behind you, or boo you, either way they show emotion. Not to mention my concerts got cancelled due to the whole thing going on in the world. During that time I decided to refocus on my other great love in life, fighting.
Bird: That’s right, I have heard reports that you were a wrestler once before, but were forced to retire after someone badly injured you-
Wilcox: Sally. Please. No one wants to hear about the past. Let’s focus on the here and now. Do I look injured? No, but my opponents will soon. They’ll look injured because they will be injured.
Bird: Edda, I’m a little surprised by how fierce you are. There have been reports that your manager has encouraged you to have more of a killer’s instinct instead of being afraid of your opponents.
Wilcox: Where are you getting these reports? Because they’re way wrong. Don’t believe everything you see and hear online, because a lot of it is fake news. But I get it. There’s a lot IIW doesn’t know about me. This is my first interview.
Bird: Yes I have a lot of questions.
Wilcox: Ok well go ahead.
Bird: You have a match coming up tomorrow. IIW’s last pay per view of the year, Noreaster. Do you have thoughts on your opponents in the match?
Wilcox: Yes I do. Now first of all, Robin Vengeance. We had tagged up against the Triumvirate and lost. I have heard through the grape vine that you blame me for that. It was your fault and I’m going to make you pay for it at Noreaster! If you had my back those scumbags wouldn’t have sprayed me in the face with green mist and slammed me onto that nice motorcycle which ruined it. So in the battle royal I’m going right for you and I’m going to make you pay!
Bird: Edda, I’m a little surprised you blame Robin for that, anyone that watched that match saw Robin holding her own while you looked rusty and out of sorts.
Wilcox: Sally, I’d appreciate it if you shut your damn pie hole. Look, the bottom line is I don’t like losing. Never have. And Robin made me take an L. That won’t happen again so in the battle royal I’ll throw her right over the side. Because it’s personal with her. These others, I don’t know as well but I have done a little research of my own. There is someone named Lauren Edwards. All she does is talk too much. She went to college at Syracuse University, well Lauren you should go back there and learn a little. Get a college degree because after Noreaster you’ll be too injured to be a wrestler anymore. I didn’t go to college so you probably think I’m beneath you. I went to the school of hard knocks. I’m built different. I feel like you’re too cocky. That needs to be beaten out of you. I’ll be your new teacher. The teacher of the most valuable lesson of all. When to know when you’re in over your head. When you should quit and back down. You might as well just jump right over the top rope and out of the ring, that way you won’t be injured by me.
Bird: Edda, I have heard reports that you have been trained by Grimjack, and that he is a man who has injured many people in the past with his deadly submission hold, the Six Second Magic. Do you plan on using that on Lauren Edwards?
Wilcox: I’m not about to explain my strategy. I know Robin, Lauren, and the rest of them will be watching this and hoping to pick up some clues on how to defeat me. That’s fine! Because I’ll tell them right now that I will slap on the Six Second Magic! In the battle royal, it won’t help me to make anyone submit, but the point will be to incapacitate my opponents, to make their arms immobile. That will help in tossing them over the top. So yeah, I have been training with Grimjack. And the truth is the opposite, he wants me to tone it down. He thinks if I don’t temper my violent nature it will get me in trouble. That that is why I lost to the Triumvirate. Which by the way I want a rematch with them. With a real teammate! Not sure who that will be. Maybe just let me get a one on one match with one of them. Actually I want a one on one match with Solace Tatum!
Bird: Edda, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Solace is the cream of the crop of the IIW. You’re a rookie. I hardly think it wise-
Wilcox: I don’t think you’re the head booker are you? But ok I get it forget Solace. I want title shots. Who is the world champion?
Bird: Well it is Casie Debonair. But to get a title shot really you’d probably need a win first.
Wilcox: I beat Ichunko!
Bird: Because she forfeited.
Wilcox: She knew what was about to happen!
Bird: She forfeits to everyone.
Wilcox: Yeah but everyone isn’t Edda Wilcox!
Bird: Ok but what does that mean?
Wilcox: We’re getting off track here. You’ll see the true Edda Wilcox at Noreaster. I feel like this is my true debut. The other matches were warmups. So here is what is going to happen. I dominate the battle royal throwing all 5 other women out of the ring. First I’ll toss out Robin. Then Lauren. So then there is Aaliyah Anderson, Latoya Hixx and someone known only as Geri. I don’t know much about them but I only need to know that they need to be tossed from the ring. So that will happen. I’ll kick off Noreaster by conquering the midcard. That will wake a few people up about the seriousness of the situation. IIW is mine now. So then, did you know there is a tournament next month?
Bird: Yes the Ice Crown tournament.
Wilcox: Yes well you see the IIW is letting people take a month off but they can join this tournament if they want something to do. Well that just separated the cowards that are afraid of me from the real competition of the IIW. I give these ones credit for volunteering for this. I have decided to dominate the entire IIW and this will be the way to do it, by defeating the bravest, most violent members. The IIW has it’s champions but they have all gotten lucky in gaining those belts. Because I wasn’t around yet when they won them. But the tournament winner is more important than any belts. That’s the real champion. So I’ll win that, and then make my own belt that will be white and blue and say Ice Crown on it. And from now on I will defend that. And never lose again for the next, say ten years. My record will always be undefeated except for the one loss to Xinya and Fyre. Which I will rectify in a rematch. This is the beginning of a dynasty and you all get to be witnesses.
Bird: Strong talk from Edda Wilcox.
Suddenly Grimjack walks up. He has a brown fur coat on as it’s a little chilly. Some of the passing new yorkers stop to take pictures of him as he is a bit famous unlike Edda.
Bird: It’s Grimjack, Edda Wilcox’s manager!
Grimjack: Thanks Sally, yeah we have to cut this interview short. You’ve wasted Edda’s time long enough. We have to go do some last minute preparations for her match tomorrow at Noreaster!
Bird: Ok well thank you Edda, thank you Grimjack. We now return to the Noreaster pre show.
Grimjack leads Edda away as they go to walk inside Madison Square Garden. They talk as they walk.
Wilcox: Thanks for getting me out of there.
Grimjack: You were going a little hard out there. You might have gone a little too far.
Wilcox: You told me to sell the match, and to show I hated my opponents.
Grimjack: Yeah but you have to build them up too. You might have pissed off Robin too. You said you were going to beat her up and easily throw her out of the ring haha.
Grimjack laughs.
Wilcox: Damn well you know I’m not good at this.
Grimjack: You’re a rock star isn’t a promo not that different?
Wilcox: Yeah but I would always exaggerate in that too, to have stage presence you need to get the crowd worked up. They love it.
Grimjack: Ok well you have to remember in wrestling it’s all mind games. And you don’t necessarily want to piss your opponents off. And in a battle royal especially, they might all decide to team up against you and toss you out. You need some allies. At least until the end. Double cross them then. But it shouldn’t matter. This was going to be a tough match no matter what. Just focus on what we talked about. You know all of their strengths and weaknesses. Robin has a metal leg so watch out for that. Ok we’re here.
They stop at the IIW locker room.
Grimjack: Ok you go inside. I have a phone call to make so I’ll be back in a second.
Wilcox: OK I think I’ll order a massage.
Grimjack: Good idea. I’ll see you in a second.
Grimjack walks over to the side and stands next to a concession stand. Madison Square Garden employees are cleaning up after an Ed Sheeran concert last night and getting it ready for a game tonight. Grimjack takes out his iPhone and calls a contact, they pick up.
Grimjack: Ok it’s on. It’ll be reported on that I’ll be at Madison Square tomorrow. Ok. Yup. Yeah watch the crowd. They’ll be in the crowd most likely. Maybe up in the rafters. Be ready to move when it happens.
The scene fades out as Grimjack is talking to someone on his phone and nodding his head in agreement to something.
