The first round took a lot out of Kelsey, she isn't going to lie. She had promised that she would throw everything she had at Brandon. That she would give him her best shot, if he gave her his best shot in return, which he did. Just as she had given to him - and it was her who had been able to come out on top. She had been the one to walk out of the arena with the victory next to her name. The one who now finds herself heading into the semi finals of the tournament, due to both her potential opponents for the quarter finals being eliminated from the tournament.
It's not what she had expected, or even what she desired, but sometimes - things happen that lead to plans changing. That lead to circumstances you couldn't have predicted arising, just as they have here. It's as Alyce told her during the camp - prepare to expect ANYTHING happening in wrestling, whether or not it benefits you. Plus, it means that she has time to scout out her possible semi-final opponents and then the potential match up for the finals, even if she knows she cannot allow herself to think too far ahead.
"I. I did it."
She mutters under her breath, as she sits in an ice bath, wearing a pair of black shorts and a white/icy blue t-shirt, within the confines of the special "recovery" section of the Adams training Center in Rochdale. The same facilities she has been using ever since she arrived in England.
One of the best things about this, is that Scott is massive on treating wrestling like the sport that it is supposed to be, so he made sure that he forumulated Kelsey's training in that vein. From the recovery sessions like this one, to the light and heavy sessions and even, everything has specifically been tailored to suit what she may need. To ensure that she is as precise and refined as she possibly can be. All so that she can truly show the world what she is capable of between the ropes.
"I overcame everything he threw at me. I went out there and showed them that I'm not just here for the experience. I'm not just here because of my name. Or because of who trained me like some people might think, but I'm here because I plan on shining. On making sure that the world knows just what I can do between those ropes."
"I do want to thank you, Brandon. You gave me your best. You showed me just what I have to expect each and every time I step into the ring. You gave me the taste that I was craving and now I want more. I want to be able to step into that ring and push myself the way I did against you."
Smiling, she stands up, her body numb from the combination of pain and the ice, before stepping out of the bath - being mindful not to slip and fall over on the Lino floor as she does. Beginning to make her way over to the oak bench to her left where she had left her gym bag, she thinks about just how much adreniline ran through her body last night. The warm and fuzzy feeling that rose within her as soon as she stepped out onto the stage. The fans, all cheering for her as she walked down to the ramp, making her almost forget about the situation and become lost in the moment, as Bianca had told her to.
Despite the climate feeling as if she had travelled to the North Pole, she enjoyed that. Although she prefers the Summer, she has never really felt the cold. Even during the heart of winter. To her, it's just another day and as long as she can find ways to keep herself warm. As long as she is able to block it out and focus on the things that she needs to, then it will never truly affect her or impact how she goes about things. She then unzips her gym bag, looking for the change of clothing she brought with her, befote extracting them.
Meanwhile, in the lobby, Bianca is sitting atop a chocolate brown cushioned chair, waiting for Kelsey. She, and not Scotty, is the one here to pick her up today, as Scott has a few things he needs to do before he flies out on the 29th to head back home to Australia for a few days for New Year's, though he'll be back before the Ice Crown finals. Looking around, she thinks about how proud she was of Kelsey. Of how well Kelsey took to actually stepping into the ring for the first time in a setting like this.
She knows that she was like a scared little puppy dog the first time she had stepped into the ring, yet excited at the same time and that it shows whenever she watches it back on tape. If Kelsey was nervous during the match, Bianca didn't see it from her vantage spot in the 2nd level of the crowd. Continuing to glance around, she pulls her phone out from the pocket of her jeans, looking at it and trying to find a number.
In the passageway, Kelsey saunters down, a soft smile across her face as she looks at some of the pictures adorning the walls. She is familiar with the people within some of them. Whether it be Alyce, Emily, Sari Nicholls or even Scotty himself, but the other pictures, she doesn't know.
"Don't get too far ahead of yourself, Kelsey. Just take it one step at a time."
She thinks to herself, even if she does aspire for her name to be within a portrait just like them one day. It's not something that she can allow to consume her however, for her sights have to continue being set on the Ice Crown tournament as a whole. That is the reason she is here and that is what shall guide her next steps within the scope of her career.
It is what will reveal whether or not she is truly ready to take the next step and fly free from the nest and showcase her talents on a global scale, or if she still needs some more polish back home. Turning left, she enters the lobby and sees Bianca standing there, a smile across her face.
"Hey Bianca."
Bianca raises her head, hearing Kelsey's greeting.
"Hey Kelsey! You were absolutely awesome last night."
Kelsey laughs. She had simply gone into her studio and slept last night, before waking up at 6:30 am and coming right here, without popping in and seeing Bianca.
"Thanks. I tried to have fun out there and just embrace the moment. I wanted to give Brandon a show and make sure people knew what I can do in the ring."
"You succeeded. You lit up the night sky and made me so happy to be able to watch you in person. I know Scotty feels the same way too. He wouldn't stop raving about you when we got back haha."
Kelsey's jaw drops. Had she really impressed him that much? Like, for real? She knows about his prestige. His legacy in the industry, so to hear that makes her feel both fuzzy AND nervous at the same time.
"R. Really? I impressed him THAT much?"
"Yeah, you really did."
Her face starting to flush, she feels as if she is about to faint. To her, this is the highest praise that she could have received. Especially this early into her career. Taking deep breaths, she manages to regain her composure as Bianca stands up, having noticed the blend of joy and almost panic that was flowing through her body. A few more deep breaths later, and Kelsey feels herself managing to regain her composure.
"I. I don't know what to think --- I'm just so grateful for everything, but to know I have impressed him makes me both excited and nervous. I wanna make sure that I keep proving him right. That I can show him his faith in me is placed in the right person."
Bianca shoots her a supportive smile. She knows deep down, that Scott will eternally by proud of her, even if there are times he doesn't outwardly show it. It's something that she has learnt about him during their near 6 years together as husband and wife as well as her 15 plus years as his friend.
He's the sort of person who can come across as cold, but he does it to ensure he remains as goal focused as possible. Kelsey will learn about that side of him in time though, and it IS something better learnt about than told.
"Don't worry. You will. There's a reason he has taken as much of an interest in you as he has. He sees a lot of himself in you ---"
Bianca covers her mouth after that last part. She hadn't intended to say it, but luckily, she managed to lower her voice enough to ensure Kelsey didn't hear it.
"You ready to head back home?"
"Yeah, I am."
Nodding, Kelsey follows Bianca as she begins to make her way towards the exit to the clinic, in the direction of the carpark, where her violet painted 2003 model Nissan Skyline is awaiting them. Now, is the time for celebrations and continuing the recovery from Kelsey's bruising encounter against Brandon Hendrix. Her match ups for the semi-finals and even the finals can be dealt with at a different time - and those preparations WILL be crossed off when the time calls for them to. ---
Bianca sits at a coffee shop in Manchester, having come out here to meet with someone that she knows. A wrestler that she has stepped into the ring with a few times, who has just flown in from Australia late on Monday night. Surprisingly, this WASN'T actually on Scotty's command, but Bianca's own - before heading out, Scott had left her everything in regards to Kelsey's training and also informed her that she was in charge of it. Anything she felt she could enhance the training with, she could do. Much like their arrangements when it comes to Adams Enterprises. Glancing left and right, she watches as people walk down the footpath, though none of them are who she is waiting for presently.
Meanwhile, at the training facility, Kelsey is about eleven reps into her session with the punching bag, the first workout that has been assigned to her for the day. Each kick delievered with a force like a bus hitting a car, the bag shakes as the sound of its stainless steel support beams as it sways from side to side before she delivers another kick, this time with her opposite foot. Maintaining her balance as she does so by firmly planting her non-kicking foot on the floor.
"Focus."
Her statement followed by a deep exhale, she delivers another duo of kicks to the bag, as Molly Hunt, the trainer working with her for this session walks over. Watching as each kick causes the bag to nearly break away from its support chain.
Molly- Looking good, Kelsey. Keep it up, and make sure to put your hips into each kick.
Nodding, Kelsey delivers another rep of two to the bag, before lowering her left leg and simply watching as the bag continues to swing. Wanting it to steady before she resumes.
Back at the coffee shop, Bianca takes a sip of the mocha on the table in front of her, as she continues to await the person to arrive. Looking down at her phone, she smiles at a message she has received from Larni. One that simply informs her that the deal pertaining to the construction of new classrooms at one of the schools Adam Enterprises runs is underway. She'll call her back when she gets home.
Another message is there - this one from the person she is waiting for, informing her that she is almost there. Just as she finishes reading it, she notices the woman walking over to the table, a soft smile across her face.
"Hey Bianca. Been a while since we last talked."
Bianca softly laughs, glancing up.
"It has been indeed, Kristy. Glad you could make it."
At the training centre, Kelsey has just finished the final of 20 reps at the bag, sweat starting to glisten in the light off her body, as Molly directs her over to the rowing machine. The focus of today's session being on improving her core strength, which is already at a decent level, but something that she could always improve. Figure out how best to harness it when she steps into the ring, especially when it comes to her striking game.
Whilst it was good against Brandon and she felt like she had managed it well, she knows that it's something she needs to keep working on. Keep refining because it is her main weapon. Her means of continously applying pressure to the opponent throughout the match. A fact that Scotty and Bianca have noticed as well. Hence why they are having her work on it in this session. Sitting down, she grabs the wires that are on the machine as Molly checks the weight. Ensuring that it is the 180 lbs that was written down on the session plan. Upon seeing that it is, she nods at Kelsey, watching as she begins to pull back on it, slightly straining as she does.
At the coffee shop, Bianca sits on one side of the table, mocha still in front of her, as the woman now identified as Australian wrestler/karate specialist Kristy Knight sits opposite her. The two having finished with their catching up portion of the discussion, seeing as they haven't seen one another in around 11 months, since Bianca flew out here to England alongside Scotty.
"So, what is it you need? I know you DIDN'T just call me over here to simply catch up."
Bianca chuckles. She's right. As much as she had liked to catch up with Kristy, it wasn't the only reason she had called her out here. Plus, she knew that Kristy was taking time off from her work with her own martial arts school to be here, something that wouldn't have happened for a simple catch up.
"You're right. I called you out here because I have a favour to ask you. Something to help out a project that Scotty and I are working on --- or rather someone we're working with?"
"Is it Kelsey Frost?"
"How did you know?"
Kristy simply laughs, as she points to her head.
"I --- have my sources. Nah, I had figured it was, because I knew she had flown over there to live/work with you two. News travels around fast, especially in our circle."
"Ah, true. Then you should know about the Ice Crown tournament she's in then?"
"Yep. I heard about her win in the first round. She looks good in the ring, even if still a little bit raw. Better than I was my debut anyway."
"Better than I did too. In fact, I think my debut was against you, or maybe it was Kristen."
"Haha, Nah, it was against me."
"Haha. 'Twas a fun match though. Showed me a lot about myself. But alas, we can regale each other about that match another time."
Bianca softly smiles.
"The reason why I called you though is because --- she's potentially gonna be facing off with a karateka in the semi finals of the tournament. Ada Pierce. And well, who better to help her prepare than someone who has made karate into an artform like you have."
Kristy nods, softly smiling. She had vaguely heard of Ada, being a karate practitioner and all, those tends of things tend to float around in discussions, but had only briefly seen her tapes.
"Haha, true enough I guess. I know OF Ada. Heard about her - don't know her or her particular style."
At the training session, Kelsey, feeling latic acid flowing through the entirity of her body and her breathing quickening, completes another squat. The sixth of her rep of fifteen as Molly spots for her.
"Keep focused --- this is what you want. This is what gets you to where you need to be."
Her words a means of motivating herself as she does another rep, she can feel the throbbing pain within her body. At this point, most people - including herself, would hsve taken a break. Yet she knows that isn't an option for her. Not if she is gonna persevere and rise beyond her own physical barriers. Not if she truly wishes to make it in this industry.
To her, the pain is what is pushing her further. It is what is driving her, just as it had against Brandon. Just as it will against either Shawn or Ada in the semis and against whoever it is she could be facing in the finals. That's if she makes it there.
"You're made for this. You're built to do this --- now it's time to show them that."
Another rep, as Molly's eagle eyes continue to watch her. Kelsey is special in her eyes - even among the array of talent she has worked with in her homeland of America. She has the mentality and the physical attributes to make it big in this industry - something that was evident from the first session she worked with her. She felt the intensity. The passion for this sport that runs through her veins.
Molly- Make sure your legs are steady. Try to maintain a wide stance.
She calls out as Kelsey adjusts her stance, her legs having slightly slid in whilst she completed her reps, thus making the squats harder than they had to be.
"I cannot afford to back away now. I cannot afford to take anything lightly. Especially not with what lays ahead."
Quietly commenting this, Kelsey completes her tenth rep, before rising up to begin another.
"Absolutely."
Back at the coffee shop, Kristy, following a sip of her black coffee, affirms that she is more than happy to help out with Kelsey's training. Teach her all that she knows about karate and what to expect from Ada, should it be her that Kelsey must face in the semi finals.
"Awesome. I know she'll love that too. Especially if it means she can keep working on those strikes."
Kristy laughs, as Bianca softly smirks. She knows how much Kelsey loves her strikes, having felt them first hand and witnessed them against Brandon, much as Ada herself had used her strikes to her advantage in her bout against Willheim Screem.
"Haha. I'll watch some film of Ada when I get back to the hotel and see what we need to work on with her. See precisely where she stands in terms of rhythm and moveset and work from there. I'll call ya tonight too."
"Sounds good to me."
Kristy smiles, finishing her coffee as Bianca takes the final sip of her mocha, before glancing slightly at the time.
"Sorry to cut this short, but I promised Scotty I would drop a few things off at Chris's by 1, so I gotta run. Talk to you tonight though."
"All good hun. Talk tonight."
Bianca begins to walk into the store, in order to pay for both of their drinks before heading off to run the errand for Scotty and having put at least one part of her training plan for Kelsey into place.
Back at the gym, Kelsey, now sitting on the bleachers and with a towel draped over her shoulders, simply glances forward. Her body aching but a sensation of relief flowing through her. It's as the old adage goes - no pain; no gain. Something she has lived by her entire life. Whether it be when she was a gymnast or now that she is a wrestler. That hasn't changed.
"Do your worst. I'll still be here, no matter what."
Her words stated between breaths, she curls her lips into a smile. To her, it won't matter who she faces in the semis, whether it be Shawn Wylde or Ada Pierce, or even who she ends up facing in the finals. She is still gonna be the same Kelsey. The same woman, looking to make her name in this tournament. This industry.
"No matter who you are, I plan on making sure you understand just why I am here and what I can do when the lights shine. Just what I am willing to do, in order to give everyone what they desire."
Glancing upward, a focus appears in her eyes as she prepares for the next portion of her training session. ---
Kelsey sits atop a steel chair, alone within the confines of what appears to be an abandoned warehouse. A stoic, focused expression is across her face as she looks forward. Her eyes shimmering as the singular light overhead reflects off them.
"The first step is often the hardest step to take is what they told me. It is one thing to have trained. Worked for this, and another to actually go out there and do it. But I did, and I am still here. Still standing, despite everything Brandon threw at me. HE took me to my limits, and I appreciate that. I needed him to, and he stepped up to the plate."
"But now, I know that the challenge is only truly beginning. Now, I know that I cannot just rest on my laurels, for he was only the first. He was just the first hurdle that I had to clear if I wish to shine. If I wanna make sure that I go out there and show them that I am the one they should have faith in. If I am to fulfil the promise that I made to Scotty. To Alyce. To Emily. To Bianca."
She lets out a soft, reflective breath upon stating those words.
"If I am to become the Ice Queen, I know that I will have to get past either Ada or Shawn. One of them, being a master of karate and one of the toughest women in this industry. Somebody who I truly admire watching in that ring and cannot wait to stand across the ring from. The other, is a name that I do not know, yet that was the same against Brandon. I watched his match against Zachary Phoenix and he has talent. He has the ability and the experience to make sure I remain on my toes at all times - and I will."
"Both of them present a challenge to me. Both of them know what is needed to win. To make sure that it is them that shines, and so do I. That is what makes either outcome fun. That is what is driving me to continue putting everything I have on the line. Making sure that I continue pushing myself and going BEYOND even my own limits."
"It is what you deserve. Just like it will be whoever it is that I may face in the finals. Whether it be Edda Wilcox, Alessia Capello, Terry Marshall or Ethan Rivers who manages to step up. I will give them all I have inside of me, for I know they will be doing the same."
Thinking, she softly shakes her head. She knows that she cannot afford to think too far ahead. That Ada and Shawn should be her focus, for she may not even get past them.
"Don't worry - my focus right now is on the two of you, Ada and Shawn. For you are the next bridge that I must cross. You two are the ones who I will be awaiting in that ring. And it is there that we will put on a show, each of us putting everything we have into ensuring we are the ones who walk out with the victory. Making sure that the moment we step into the ring, the other is given an experience they will NEVER forget."
She chuckles to herself.
"I know it's gonna be fun. That it's gonna be a night that I hold near and dear to me. I just hope the two of you can say the same when it's all said and done. So, do your worst and I'll do mine, Ada and Shawn. I will see you there."
She then stands up and begins to walk off. Knowing that she has the chance to either step into the ring against somebody she has the utmost respect for, or somebody that is just as Brandon was. An unknown. Either way, she plans on simply having fun and giving all that she has inside of her. For the pain. The adulation of the fans sparked something inside of her. A feeling she wishes to retain, even as the tournament goes on.

Burke’s Dojo - January 23rd, 2016
As the students of Burke’s Dojo file out of the building, Sensei Burke sticks his hand up in the air, catching Ada Pierce’s attention. “Ada. Stay. Please.”
Reluctantly, Pierce removes herself from the crowd before leaning against the wall, waiting for her fellow students to leave. Not looking forward to whatever lecture the Sensei has in store for her, especially after what she did to the resident bully of her school and brief student of the dojo, Mike Wilson. With everyone but Ada out of the building, the Sensei sits on the ground, inviting Ada to do the same. “Please. Sit.”
As Sam crosses his legs, Ada approaches him before doing the same. “Great work today. Excellent as always.”
“…Thanks.”
“I wanted to talk to you about Mike Wilson. What you did the last time he was here and what happened between you two at school.”
Ada rolls her eyes, mumbling under her breath. “damnit vickie”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
Sensei Burke nearly growls out of his annoyance at Ada Pierce’s reluctance to speak her mind. Realizing he’s not going to get anywhere by just waiting for her to talk, Sam presses the issue. “Vickie told me about the suspension. She’s worried about you, as am I. You have a bright future ahead of you, Ada. It would be a shame for you to throw it away.”
Ada angrily responds, raising her voice. “I’m not throwing it away! I just did what was right!”
“Ada, just calm-“
“No! I’m not going to calm down! I gotta listen to this bullshit at home, at school and now I get it from you!?”
The Sensei widens his eyes, matching Ada’s tone as he decides to be more assertive. “I said calm down!”
An awkward silence takes over as Ada fights to keep her emotions at bay, her eyes welling up as her lip quivers. Feeling immense guilt at raising his voice, the Sensei continues with a soft tone. “Christ, kid. Just let me say my piece.”
Ada sniffles as her head hangs, refusing to look in the Sensei’s general direction. “Look… what you did to Wilson in this dojo and in the school… came from the right place. I know that, Ada.”
“Then why are you treating me like I’m the bad person here…?”
“Ada… I’m not. At least, I don’t mean to. And if it’s coming off that way, I’m sorry. I just want you to know that.”
Ada finally looks at Sam, her tear-filled eyes tugging at the Sensei’s heartstrings. “You’ve been my student for just over a year now, Ada. Your progress has been… phenomenal, to be upfront. But it’s your anger that holds you back.”
“I can’t… help it, Sensei. I-I-I can’t… Everywhere I go… I can’t catch a break…”
Concerned, Sam decides to address the proverbial elephant in the room. He has avoided the subject, but with the suspension and Ada’s declining mental health, he feels he must talk about it, albeit attempting to do so as delicately as he can. “Vickie has spoken in little detail about it, but she’s given me the general idea regarding your living conditions. With your parents.”
Ada clams up. She wants nothing to do with the subject. “I understand that… you don’t exactly have the support you need… that you deserve at home. And I guess… I just wanted to let you know that you have that support from me and my daughter. A big part of why I wanted you in here is because of what Vickie told me about your situation when I asked her why she never goes over to your place and how you pretty much spend your days at the arcade after school. I wanted you to be around people who’ve got your back, Ada.”
Ada wipes her cheeks, finally managing to crack the tiniest of tiny smiles. “Th-Thank you.”
Sam brightly smiles back at Ada. “Don’t mention it. Now… what happened? Why did they suspend you?”
Feeling better, Pierce finds it easier to talk about the confrontation. “I was suspended the other day for what I did to Wilson. He was too scared after what I did here, so he was picking on someone else. And...I snapped. Even though I was standing up to him for starting it, I was the one suspended. Suspended until my mum decides to drag her useless-… to visit the school to meet with the headteacher.”
“Why hasn’t she done so already? It’s been several days since you, uh… kicked Mike’s ass.”
Ada chuckles. Sam’s attempt at getting her to laugh was a success. Unfortunately, the only truthful response Ada can think of causes her voice to crack. “She... doesn’t care.”
Sam furrows his brows, gnashing his teeth out of his frustration at Pierce’s negligent mother. “I’ll be visiting the school next week to discuss Vickie’s future as I feel that place is… problematic. I’ll try to speak to them about you. Point out Mike’s behaviour in this dojo to help them see what you were standing up to a bully.”
Shocked, Ada’s reddened eyes widen as she looks up at Sam. “N-No, you don’t have to-“
“I want to. That’s the end of it. What I want from you is a promise. I want you to promise me that you will control your anger. Easier said than done, but one thing many of my brightest students struggle with is managing their strikes. Controlling them. You, however, do it with ease… until your rage takes hold of you. When you’re driven by your emotions, you lose control. You become blinded with hate. And deep down inside, I know that’s not what you are. You are a good person.”
Ada smiles once more, sniffling before expressing her gratitude. “T-Thank you…”
“In order to truly move forward, one mustn’t ignore their previous mistakes, Ada. Life is about moving forward. But move forward without purpose and you risk becoming an aimless wanderer. An aimless, misguided wanderer that believes they are moving forward, but in reality? They are lost. It’s important to stop and take the necessary step back. Assess your actions. Study them. Learn from them. Use your newfound knowledge to then not only step forward, but propel yourself to new heights. Simply put… learn from your mistakes and become stronger so that you may do better.”
Ada’s watery eyes widen as she’s, to put it bluntly, blown away by Sam’s advice. The thought had never crossed her mind. In an effort to escape from her rough upbringing, Ada hasn’t been moving forward. She’s been desperately running away, channeling her anger in ways that turn her into the scary monster despite the pure intentions behind her actions. “I’ve outright refused to continue teaching many, many people who’ve come to me without the right intentions. The resolve I look for. People who want to use what I have to teach them for nothing good. But that’s not you. You have the resolve. You are, as my daughter always calls you, badass. And despite your anger, I won’t give up on you. I just hope you trust and don’t give up on me.”
Overwhelmed, Ada flies up to her feet before deeply bowing before her Sensei. “Never.”
Ice Crown Tournament: Night One - Aftermath - December 26th, 2021
As the first night of the Ice Crown Tournament goes off the air, the Karateka finally snaps out of the trance she’s found herself in. After her intense match with Wilhelm Screem, Ada found herself in the locker room, watching the rest of tournament take place. Instead of leaving early, she stayed behind, opting to took mental notes of every single contestant she could potentially face at Night Two. But the show has ended. It’s time to head home. Having changed out of her gi, Ada Pierce dons her black leather jacket, grabbing her bag before exiting the locker room. Feeling a sting in her right hand after pushing the door open, Ada ignores it as she heads down the halls, making her way to the parking lot. Her mind races, not knowing how to feel about herself after what she did in New York and her victory against Wilhelm Screem. For a reason she cannot quite put a finger on, Pierce hasn’t felt the rush to report back to her childhood friend, Vickie Burke and her father and Ada’s Sensei, Samuel Burke. She has yet to even pick up her silenced phone. Despite her victory, Ada feels empty inside. She questions her decision to take advantage of Wilhelm’s initial bewilderment at the crowd at the beginning of their match. Instead of waiting for him to snap out of it, she forced him back down to reality with her fists. The reason behind the emptiness slowly clears up as she arrives at the parking lot, spotting her car. This isn’t who she is. Unlocking her Sensei’s black 2007 Volkswagen Passat, Pierce opens the door to the driver’s seat, feeling her hand sting before ignoring the sensation once again. She places her bag on the passenger seat before entering the vehicle and starting the engine. It’s only when Ada places her hand on the wheel that she finally realizes why she’s felt several stings on her way to the car. Her pale skin is discoloured, her knuckles bruised with several small cuts. The source of the stinging pain in her hands and the emptiness she feels within becomes crystal clear to her. “Shit.”
Faced with a dangerous opponent like Wilhelm, Ada battled him like a woman possessed. Possessed by darkness and anger. In order to defeat someone she viewed as a monster, she became the very thing he suspected her to be: a demon. A fighter with no regard for her opponent’s well being. No respect given. Dishing out pure punishment and nothing else. The second she nearly had her head taken off by Wilhelm’s lariat, she snapped, quickly making a comeback when she threw all caution to the wind by faking a low kick before nearly decapitating Wilhelm with a brutal spinning Skull Kick. As if that wasn’t enough, she immediately followed up with the spinning heel kick before picking up the victory. It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t controlled. It was pure rage. That internal rage is now directed at herself, and realizing this, Ada finally pulls her phone out of her pocket, unlocking it before messaging Sam Burke. Loudly sighing, Pierce turns the radio on just as ‘Borderline’ by Tame Impala plays. Disappointed in herself, Ada drops her phone in the cup holder before resting her forehead against the wheel, closing her eyes. Feeling lost, Pierce thinks back to the first time she truly applied her Sensei’s advice…
The School Yard - January 26th, 2016
Earlier in the day, Vickie Burke was confronted by Mike Wilson, the boy Ada Pierce had beaten up not once, but twice. Wilson had threatened Vickie to deliver a message to Ada. Meet him at the school’s yard or he, along with his friends, will make Ada’s friends’ lives a living nightmare. Angered by the audacity to target her best friend, Ada lies in wait at the yard, answering his challenge. Knowing that if she were to report his behaviour, it would only delay the inevitable, Ada prepares herself for a tense confrontation. Her nerves, however, go haywire as she fears that this will end with another suspension, the last thing she wants after Vickie’s father, Sensei Burke, did everything he could to get the headteacher to lift Ada’s suspension. Before long, Mike, along with his buddies, arrive as a crowd forms around them and Pierce. “You’ve got some nerve coming back here, Ada.”
“I kinda have to come here, dumbass. We all do.”
“‘Ey, any of you try to stop this, my mates here will punch your teeth in, got it? It’s between me and this slag.”
Ada chuckles at Mike’s immaturity, but her smile is quickly wiped off when she spots Vickie attempting to squeeze past the crowd and into the circle. “STAY OUT OF THIS, VICKIE!”
Vickie stops dead in her tracks, shaken by the fact that her best friend just screamed her lungs out at her for trying to help. Ada, in an attempt to communicate something to her friend, simply nods at her. Fortunately, Vickie understands, retreating to the back of the crowd before heading into the school to get help. “So what now? Did you call me out here to apologize for your garbage behaviour? Or better yet, apologize to every single person here that you’ve bullied and mobbed for no reason?”
The crowd hoot and holler at Ada rightfully calling Wilson out, but the hotheaded bully responds in a predictable manner. “Shut your mouth! I’m here to put you in your place, bitch. Teach you to mess with me.”
Ada shakes her head, refusing to give Wilson the satisfaction. She knows she’s being baited, and despite her inner voice telling her to kick his head in, her heart tells her to do the right thing. Sam’s words begin to drown out the anger inside her, reminding her to control her emotions. She looks past Mike and the crowd behind him, waiting for someone to intervene before she snaps, but unfortunately, no one has arrived yet. “Come on, Karate Girl!”
“I... I don’t wanna do this. I didn't do what I did to you for fun. I was trying to make you know what your bullshit feels like when it's done to you. And if you still can't see it, then there's no hope for you.”
Wilson begins to feel like the fool he is as Ada, a woman more than capable of whooping him, refuses to engage. After all, he’s driven by nothing than his wounded ego while Pierce knows that this is bigger than her. If she engages, she’ll simply be blamed for this and everything Sam did for her will be for nothing. It’s at this moment that one of the bully’s friends blindside Ada, sucker punching her in the back of the head, prompting the other students to scream at him in anger as Ada crashes down on her knee. “…Too bad!”
Anger takes hold of Wilson as he sees his opportunity to get some revenge, rushing in before striking Ada in the face, knocking her down to the ground. She gnashes her teeth as she plants her hands on the dirt, pushing herself back up to her feet. Spitting blood out of her mouth, Ada looks up at Mike as she rises. “I… know… you can do better than that…”
With that line adding fuel to the fire, Wilson angrily throws another punch, smashing Ada in the side of her head as her legs give out, but before she hits the ground again, Mike grabs her, pushing her back up before landing another punch to her face. Finally, she hits the ground once more as Mike's eyes widen, shocked that he's still standing. Shocked that Ada has yet to throw a punch or kick his way.“…S-Stop holding back!!!”
Ada, bloodied and bruised, smiles as she digs deep enough to will herself back up to her feet. Her plan is working. The first punch she ate from the kid that sucker punched her was harder than any of the ones from Mike. That one had anger behind it. But the longer this goes on, the less motivated Mike will become as he realizes that there is nothing driving him to do this past his ego. Gone are his remarks that lacked any semblance of wit, replaced by him almost begging Ada to give him a reason to fight her. Ada, however, refuses to do so. Pushing herself back up to her feet again, Pierce knows that, despite the fact that she hasn’t thrown a single punch, a single kick so far, everyone watching this situation unfold realizes who the real winner is. “Do something, damnit!”
Ada simply smiles at Mike, shaking her head. “…No.”
The anger that once reigned over Mike’s mentality, visibly written all over his face is replaced by confusion. A feeling of foolishness. Slowly, his fist is unclenched as he instinctively backs away from the bloodied Ada Pierce as, thankfully, the headteacher that personally suspended Ada a week prior forces his way through the crowd of students before pulling Mike Wilson away with him as Vickie Burke quickly stands in front of Ada, protecting her from the bully’s mates as they back away, leaving the scene of the crime. Startled by a hand on her shoulder, Vickie turns around only to see Ada’s bloodied, smiling face.
“I’m okay.”
Burke’s Dojo - December 26th, 2021
Entering the dojo, Ada slips out of her converse shoes as she drops her bag next to the door, locking it before making her way through the dimly-lit dojo hall, calling out for Sam. “Sensei, you here?”
“In the back.”
Ada enters the backroom, finding Sam on the couch in front of the TV, no doubt having stayed in the same spot since the first night of the Ice Crown Tournament concluded. He invites Ada to take a seat next to him, which she does. With a smile on his face, Sam expresses his pride in his student. “You did great out there tonight. I’m proud of you.”
Ada chuckles as she finds it difficult to look Sam in the eyes, burying her face in her hands. “Yeah… I’m not.”
Sam sighs as he places his hand on Ada’s shoulder, attempting to comfort his conflicted student. “I don’t like the way I won, Sam. I don't like the way I fought. I don’t… I don’t feel like I truly earned it. The woman that had her hand raised tonight… that wasn’t me. It wasn’t who I’m supposed to be.”
“No one can decide the person you’re supposed to be, kid.”
“You did.”
“That’s incorrect. I never shaped you. All I did was guide you. Gave you advice. Trained you. The rest of it was in your hands. The decisions to be who you wanted to be were always made by you. Not me. Not Vickie. No one but you.”
Ada’s eyes light up for a moment, but she quickly furrows her brows, slamming her hand down on the armrest. “Well, I don’t like who I chose to be tonight! I don’t wanna be controlled by my anger… Shit…”
“Ada, you-“
Interrupting Sam, Ada throws her hands in the air, displaying them to the Sensei as her eyes well up. “Look at my hands. God, I was so up my own ass all night that I didn’t even realize how hard I went until I put my hand on the wheel.”
Ada shakes her head, balling her bruised hands into fists as she continues. “You know, while I was driving here… I kept thinking about that day… six years ago. It was right after we had one of our first heart-to-heart talks in here, right after you came to the school for the first time to talk to them about me. When that shithead bully called me out…”
The Sensei leans back against the couch before grabbing the pack of smokes on the table. “The first time you were truly in control of your emotions.”
Ada nods, turning to look at Sam, spotting him taking a cigarette out. Despite feeling the need to slap it out of his hands, she refrains, much like the Sensei has refrained from lecturing her over the past month as she’s slowly strayed further and further away from his teachings. Let the man blow off some steam, she thinks. “My face was twice as bruised that day as my hands right now. But despite that, I felt… content. I applied what you taught me, controlled my emotions. When I responded to Mike’s aggressions with my own, all that did was breed more aggression. Yet, when I let him hit me… he never hurt anyone ‘till the day I graduated. I guess I’m afraid of becoming what I hate…”
After taking a lengthy drag of his cigarette, the Sensei turns to face Ada with a serious, stern expression on his face. “The funny thing is… I always blamed myself for that. When you walked into this dojo that day, it hurt me to look at you. I felt like I was the reason you let that… that piece of fucking shit hurt you the way he did.”
Ada is taken aback by Sam’s anger forcing its way through his tone and his choice of words as he continues. “Kid… I’m glad Wilson never hurt anyone after what he did to you. But holding back against someone capable of doing what he did to you… it was dangerous. But it worked… somehow, it worked. I didn’t agree with it. I would’ve much preferred the scenario where I had to come to the school again on behalf of your parents after you kicked his head in, but you did what you thought was right. It isn’t my place to say it was wrong, as much as it angered me. But it worked. And that was the day I realized that you were much stronger and much wiser than I thought you were. And I already thought the world of you.”
Pierce sheds a tear as she looks into Sam’s eyes, overwhelmed to hear him say those words. “I’ve held back a lot over the past few weeks… I wanted to see you carve your own path in a world I don’t fully understand. But what I know is that, in this wrestling business, what you did against Wilson won’t work when the bell rings. You are in that ring with people from all sorts of different walks of life. Someone like Kelsey Frost reminds me of you. You can walk into that ring, face her and apply the rules of the dojo to that match and no matter who wins, I know you’d both shake hands and possibly become friends when all’s said and done. But you also have people like Alessia Capello trying to break her opponents in half and Wilhelm Screem literally threatening to end your life.”
Ada nods in agreement as she sighs, and after another drag of his cigarette, Sam continues. “I’ll admit… I was worried about where your head was after New York. But what you did tonight? You have nothing to be ashamed of. It’s your head, Ada. Nobody is a bigger obstacle to you than you. You always do this.”
“Sam… I wouldn’t take what I did in New York back. You’re right. I did turn the aggression up for someone as dangerous and unpredictable as Wilhelm. In the ring, after everything he said, I felt like I had to. But I’m afraid. I’m afraid, Sensei. Afraid of becoming someone I don’t want to be.”
“Kid, someone threatening to murder is opponents had to be stopped at all costs. You’re damn right you had to turn the aggression up. But it’s important to not succumb to the darkness one must tap into to become strong enough to take down a monster. And I know that, no matter what happens, you won’t. You won’t.”
Ada buries her face into her hands once more before loudly exhaling, hoping that Sam is right. “God, I hope so… You know, funny that you mentioned Kelsey Frost. When I watched her beat Brandon Hendrix tonight, I also felt like… I was almost looking into a mirror. When I listened what she had to say to him before the tournament, I felt like I was looking at myself being interviewed by Michael Morrison after I’d signed my IIW contract. And then… I thought about what I’d do if I faced her after Shawn Wylde. Kelsey is a lot like me before Mercedes-Jane Debonair attacked me. Before that… bitch brought out the worst in me. Do I fight her like I fought Wilhelm? Like I fought Mercedes? Jamie Riott?”
Sam remains silent as he puts his cigarette out, waiting for Ada to finish her thought, almost holding his breath as he does so. “Then I thought… to hell with that. I’d rather lose to her than take advantage of her. Take advantage of the fact she has yet to learn what The Coven taught me.”
Sam instinctively lets out a sigh of relief, smiling as he listens intently. “I have a ways to go before I’m truly comfortable in that ring. Tonight proved that. But you’re right. It depends on who I’m facing. Shawn Wylde? Yeah. Guy’s good. I’ve always admired Robin Vengeance, and apparently, he mentored her. ‘Least, I admired her until she turned into Alessia’s lackey. And speaking of Alessia… I guess I’ll have to break her before she can break me. And if I can survive my side of the brackets, I’m gonna have to break her.”
Sam’s smile grows as he visualizes his student, little Ada Pierce, taking on Terry Marshall. “Then you got Terry Marshall. Hell, even I know who he is.”
Ada chuckles, finally smiling at Sam. “Who doesn’t? Guy’s a legend! God, imagine that? This local karateka taking on THE Terry Marshall.”
Sam nods, but his smile is quickly wiped off his face as he thinks of Terry’s next opponent. “Then there’s Ethan Rivers…”
Ada smirks as she imagines facing Ethan in the Ice Crown Tournament, a man who can be argued to be Monday Night Mayhem’s fastest rising star. “Much as I’d love to face the legendary Marshall… imagine me taking on Ethan Rivers. You know, this was a big motivator behind me signing up for this tournament. When I signed with IIW, I was more than willing to wrestle on First Class as well as Mayhem, but that just isn’t how things work there, is it? Rivers, however… now that’s the perfect Mayhem guy for me to defeat. A man that has yet to be pinned or submitted.”
“Much like you.”
“Exactly. Part of me hopes that ends up being the final. After all, I wouldn’t want to kick Terry’s head in. Alessia… I have a feeling our paths will cross whether we like it or not. Edda Wilcox…”
“Defeated Denise DiMarco. Someone you’re all too familiar with.”
“Mhm. I’m looking forward to seeing what Edda’s going to do against Alessia. Denise is no pushover. I learned that first-hand, and I'm sure Edda did as well. As impressive as it was for Capello to defeat Nova Skye, I have a feeling she could get cocky. And it won’t end well for her if she does.”
The Sensei leans in, patting Ada on the back. “All I know is you’re going to do great no matter what. Get out of your own head and you’ll be fine. And no matter what happens, I’ll be proud of you. Know that.”
Ada smiles at Sam, unable to contain her emotions as she tightly hugs him. The Sensei hugs her back, feeling a huge weight lifted off his chest after finally talking things through with someone he’s grown to view as his own daughter. With a huge year ahead of them, the Sensei and his student remain on the same page, ready to take on whatever challenges 2022 has in store for them. First stop: Ice Crown Tournament: Night Two….

Kelsey sits in front of an oak table that has been set up within her studio, a bottle of water to her right and a bowl of salt and vinegar chips in front of her. A little bit of a treat for herself, considering the new year's period plus the fact that in a little over a week's time, she will be entering the final stretch of the Ice Crown tournament, where she will have to win twice in the same night, if she is to walk out with the actual crown to her name and become known as the woman who rose above the rest in her first true test, especially considering where she has come from and the work she has put in to get to this point. It may be clichè, it might be the same rhetoric that you've heard many wrestlers or even people talk about in the past - yet it is the truth. She has given everything she has to even get to this point and will continue to do so, as she progresses throughout the course of her career.
Raising a chip to her mouth, she chews down, thinking about everything she has done - even in the last week when training with both Bianca and guest trainer/karate specialist Kristy Knight, attempting to gleam as much information as she can about those who she will potentially be facing off against in the semi-finals of the tournament. In particular, Ada Pierce.
"Honour. Respect ---"
Those are the 2 key components to Ada, from what she has seen of the young karateka. Both inside and outside of the ring. Kelsey remembers the footage. The videos she had watched in order to learn about the young beauty from Wolverhampton, as well as the comparisons that have been made to herself, in terms of their personality. How Kelsey is just like Ada was when she first came into the company. Innocent and sweet. Something that makes Kelsey smiles, as that is the person she wants to be known as - it is the sort of woman she strives to be. It is the light she wishes to bring upon the world, just as she stated the first day she walked into the gym.
"Those are the 2 things that tie us together, Ada. It is those threads, that are key to who we are. That guide our path through this world."
Kelsey smiles, as she crunches down on another chip, her face cringing due to the taste, though it returns to normal soon enough. Either way, her thoughts continue to be fixated on Ada. How the 2 could very well be seen as peas in a pod, and how some may say that this is like looking into a mirror and seeing the other in the reflection. Not just on social media or TV either - Bianca has even stated that to her. Their work ethic. Their proficency in the ring during the course of their young careers, Kelsey's career being even younger than Ada's in terms of duration and their jovial demeanours. Letting out a soft breath, she takes a swig of her water before slightly repositioning her body in the chair, her expression is one of relaxed joy.
"They are what we have brought us to where we are today. It is what makes us who we are - two people who value the honour, the respect that this industry holds. The honour of being able to go out there and give our all each and every time we step into the ring and look out to the fans. Every time we look at our opponents, we know that the only way to truly respect them. To truly give them the battle that they deserve, then we must bring everything we have, for they will be doing the same to us."
"It is why I admire you, Ada. It is why you are one of the people I truly respect with all of my heart. From the moment I first saw you compete in the ring, I saw somebody who I wanted to be like - somebody who went out there and fought for everything she has. A woman who managed to make things happen for herself, no matter who stood in her way. An inspiration to those who watch her, just as you were to me. You were the one I could make sure to watch every night when I got home from either school or the gym and watch on Netflix."
Her facial expression sincere, she thinks back to when she would sit in front of her computer, a bowl of chips like she has rignt now on the table next to her and watch First Class on Netflix. Imagining that one day, she would be able to call herself a part of them - or at the very least, have the opportunity to face them in the ring.
It is why she was excited when Alyce informed her that she would be participating in this tournament - yet she was nervous at the same time. She still is nervous, if she's to be totally honest with herself. Although she may not show it, she is daunted by the competition surrounding her. Names that hold more weignt in this industry than hers and people who have been wrestling a lot longer than she has.
She is afraid of what might happen if she fails. If she simply goes out there and falls flat on her face. It scares her more than anything else - even though she knows that sometimes, failure is inevitable and that it can be her greatest learning tool. It can be those failures that make her stronger in the long run. Something that her gymnastics coach hammered into her when she was younger.
"And now --- I possibly have the chance to step into the ring and face you. The chance to face off against someone who I earnestly hold so much respect for and honestly, it's intimidating. It's frightening to think that it will be you and I, alone in that ring. One on one and staring one another in the eyes, not looking to hold back. Not looking for anything else but to win. Yes, I know that Shawn Wylde could very well throw a spanner into those works. That it could be him that I face, and I will be ready for him if he does, for he is good too. He is talented in the ring, just as Ada is."
Kelsey lets out a deep sigh.
"But you are the one I wanna face, Ada. You are the one who I want to see in that ring, because it is the ONLY way I can see where I stand. It is the only way I can truly look into the mirror and see just where I stand. I know they say to never meet your heroes. That when you do, they may disappoint you - but deep down, I know you won't. I know you're not like them. That you truly have light and joy within your heart."
"I know that it is you, who can bring the best out of me. That if it is you that I meet in the ring, that we will put on a show. A fight that nobody will ever forget - regardless of who wins. And after the match, I know that we can go backstage and laugh about this match. Smile and maybe even eat chips together, because you are the sort of person I could see being friends with. Somebody who I can just hang out with."
Feeling excitement running through her veins, she takes another swig of water, before grabbing a stack of 3 chips and playfully tossing them into her mouth. Chowing down on them as she continues to stare forward. A small shimmer appearing in her eyes as she thinks about that possibility, before her face droops slightly as she remembers the reality.
The fact that there will not be friends inside of the ring come the Ice Crown semi-finals, but opponents. It's as she learnt during training - that as much as she might wish for there to be, there are no friends when you step into that ring and compete. That everything goes out the window the moment that bell rings, something that she has always disliked. She's a person who if she is your friend. If you and her are bound together by a bond, it will not matter if you are her opponent in that ring - she will still be your friend. Both in the ring and once the match is said and done.
"No matter what happens, I know that we will make magic happen. That we will hold honour and respect in our heart and when it is all said and done. When that bell rings, we will have built a foundation. A bond that will remain eternally within our hearts. A moment that we can look back on and realise that this is where we both looked into each other's eyes and saw ourselves. You saw the person you were and I saw the person who I want to be."
"It doesn't matter to me what people might think. It doesn't matter what people might do, because Ada, you are an amazing competitor in that ring. You are stunning. You are somebody who has stood tall and remained themselves through everything. And that's the you I want in the ring. That's the you I know that I have to face if I am to truly take my next step. If I am to begin writing this next chapter in my story, for it is the only way I will be able to know just what I am going to have to face. What I will have to overcome, if I am to truly be the light that shines."
Slightly pushing the bowl off to the side, she moves her body slightly forward. Making sure that the focus within her eyes is clearly visible to those who may be watching.
"I do want you to promise me one thing though, Ada. If you do beat me, if it is you who manages to take her place in the finals of the tournament, I want you to go out there and win it. I want you to be the Ice Crown holder if it cannot be me --- because you deserve it."
"I promise that I will go out there and give it everything to do the same if I am the one who is able to walk out the winner of our impending match. No matter who it may be that I face in the finals. Ethan Rivers, Terry Marshall, Edda Wilcox or Alessia Capello. I will give them everything I have and carry both of our aspirations on my shoulders, just as I hope you will if you defeat me."
She then exhales, thinking about not just the possible bout with Ada, but also the 4 names that she had mentioned. 4 people who could very well be her opposition, should she make it into the final. If she can continue the 'cinderella' run that she is on, as some might call it. After all, when the brackets were first revealed, there wouldn't have been many people who would have expected her to make it this far in the tournament, outside of her trainers.
Not even she expected to make it this far, herself. Now that she is here however. Now that she HAS made it this far, she believes in herself. She knows that it will take all that she has, yet that is EXACTLY what she is willing to give, if it means she can continue this dream. If it means that she can continue to showcase herself. Continue going out there and ensuring that she puts on a show. Each and every night.
"I want you to do your worst to me, Ada. I want to see that fire. That passion that I know you have within you, because I will be bringing mine. I want to feel your heart, just as you will feel mine. And let the better woman on the night be the one who stands tall."
Smiling, Kelsey holds a dreamy expression within her eyes. This match means the world to her, and now, she is only a matter of days from going out there and facing either Shawn Wylde or the woman she sees as an inspiration in Ada Pierce for the right to reach the Ice Crown tournament finals, and even win the tournament as a whole. ---
There are plenty of things you can say about Kelsey. There are many things that she can be called. Starry-eyed, youthful, naive, energetic being among them, but one thing she ISN'T is unaware of what people say about her. Of the whispers that ruminate whenever her name is brought up in discourse. Whether that discourse be on forums online or even in the streets. She hears it, she reads it and she knows what people think about her. What they thought about her.
By that, it is referring to Erick Elliott's comments pertaining to her and using her as a means to try and talk down to Brandon Hendrix, who she defeated in the first round of the Ice Crown tournament, and his opponent on the upcoming episode of Mayhem. She doesn't know much, if anything about Erick. Never met him or even watched him wrestle in the past, yet his words struck her to her core.
They hit her hard, seeing him think of her as nothing more than just another 'diva'. A mere weakling who should have fallen to Brandon, but didn't. After all, that's what most people would have thought upon first glance at the match. Brandon was supposed to be too strong for her. He was supposed to overwhelm her and brush her aside. Yet when they got into the ring, she took everything that he had to offer and kept standing. Kept coming back for more, until she was able to hit the Bridled Rage and pin him.
"I proved them wrong --- I showed them that it wasn't about the size of the dog in the fight, but rather, the size of the fight in the dog."
She sits atop a bench at a park, overlooking the vast, vacant land surrounding her as she remarks that. A soft look within her eyes, she exhales. Trying not to let the words get to her, but unable to shake them. Yet it is not just Erick's words alone - it is also the dismissive nature of Alessia Capello. The fact that in her eyes, Kelsey is just a tool. A little speedbump standing between her and Ada Pierce meeting in the finals. A meeting that she has claimed is destined to occur.
"They keep counting me out. They keep seeing me as nothing more than a name. A face, there solely to fall at their hands - yet each and every time I go out there, I give them all that I have. I go out there and fight with everything inside of me, so that they can understand. So that they can realise that I'm not just gonna lie down. I'm NOT just gonna step off to the side, just because it is what they believe I should do."
"Yet that's not the sort of person I am. It's not the sort of person I want to be. Every time I go out there, I don't just fight for myself. I don't just fight for the fans. I fight for Alyce. I fight for Emily. I fight for Ricky. I fight for Bianca. I fight for all those woman back home, who may never get the opportunity I have. I fight for those who wish to have someone they can look up to and say 'I wanna be her when I grow up', because I was just like them. Just now, I have been able to get this shot. This opportunity to live out my dream."
She sighs softly, thinking about everyone that is back home. Watching her step into the ring and wrestle. Take on people who have been in this industry since she was a young child. Since she was in the shoes of those who she wishes to become the guiding light for, because it is what they deserve. She wants them to look at her and see that it IS possible to make it. That it is possible for them to be just like her, no matter what others might say. No matter what they might elect to believe, she plans on ensuring they know just what resides within her heart. The undying spirit that she brings forth, no matter who stands on the opposite side of the ring to her.
"I know I'm not the biggest. I know I'm not the strongest or the fastest, but I don't need to be. All I need to be, is the one who goes out there and gives you all that she has. The one who simply refuses to die. The one who will stand up and tell you to bring all that you have, because the fire. The flame that resides within me will never be snuffed out. It will not matter who you are or what you might believe, because when I step into that ring and look you in the eyes, you will see somebody that simply never relents. Never gives up, and somebody who you will have to try and put down over and over again."
"Whether it be Alessia Capello or Erick Eliott or anybody else, you will see that you can NEVER truly count me out. That you can not see me as just being another woman, because you will be in for a surprise if that is what you assume about me. You will be in for a shock when I keep standing. When I stare at you and ask for more. And you'll finally see that this isn't just another person. This isn't somebody who you can simply dismiss as a 130 pound diva, but that you wi see as a warrior. A gladiator who does not know the meaning of the word surrender. A woman who wishes for nothing more than to bring light upon the world."
Leaning forward, she smiles as the crisp, cold wind circulates around her, brushing against the fabric of her jacket and jeans. A fire evident within her eyes.
"This is my life now and I embrace that. It does not matter if I win or lose, because I know that deep down, I would have proven you wrong either way. Just as I did when I beat Brandon."
She then softly laughs.
"And I will continue to do so, as long as I am here. As long as I keep standing."
She then stands up, beginning to walk off. Having said all that she wishes to. For she knows that she may not be able to change everyone's opinions on her, but what she CAN do, is continue to prove them wrong. Something she fully intends on doing. ---
"Hey, Kelsey!"
Hearing her name being called out, Kelsey glances up from her position at the kitchen table inside of Scotty and Bianca's house. Bianca had told her to come in, as she had a 'surprise' for her. The voice is familiar to her - it is that of somebody she trained with during the camp back home. Somebody who she had listed as an inspiration to her during the advertisment for the Adams Wrestling Clinic she did.
Madeliene Satterfield - the "Alpha Wolf" as she occasionally goes by. Her jaw dropping, she cannot help but smile. She had not expected this to be the surprise, but it makes her giddy inside. Just as she was the first training session she had with Kristy in the gym, learning about karate and other techniques in preparation for night two. For whoever she may have to compete against in the semis and even the finals. Even if she is trying NOT to get too far ahead of herself.
"MADDY!"
"Haha, been a while, hasn't it? How you doing?"
Laughing, Maddy flashes a smile at Kelsey. They had talked over the phone for Christmas and New Year's, but it had been a month since they had seen one another in person.
"Yes! I'm pretty good. Nervous about this tournament, but still fighting. Still giving them my all, just like I did with you."
Maddy nods. She had seen the first round match Kelsey had, and remembers the same intensity she had given her when they stepped into the practice ring the first day of the training camp.
"I saw that. You were extremely impressive out there against Brandon. I will admit --- I was a little nervous about how you would go, but you handled it amazingly."
"Really? You really think I did?
"Of course! You looked like a seasoned veteran out there. Like, you managed to use Brandon's greatest asset against him, something even I would have struggled with."
Kelsey cannot believe what she is hearing. She had never thought someone like Maddy would have any issues in the ring, yet here she is. Stating that Kelsey managed to pull off a feat she mightn't have. And in her first ever match too. Maybe she is doing it just to ensure that Kelsey retains confidence, but it is still extremely high praise nonetheless. Plus, it is working too.
"Wow --- I guess I just have to keep living up to that high bar then."
Her head beginning to feel light, Kelsey takes a sip of the water that is in front of her as Maddy sits down.
"Haha. I'm sure you will - but that's not why I'm here to talk to you about. Well, not exactly."
Surprised, Kelsey's eyebrow raises. Curious as to what else Maddy might have for her.
"I actually have something special for you. A little present that I think you will love. Actually, I KNOW you'll love it."
It is then, that it can be seen that Maddy has placed a small box on the table. Like the one Kelsey got from Bianca when she recieved her new attire. The attire that she wore when she faced Brandon and will continue to wear with pride as her journey in the ring continues. Reaching out, Kelsey pulls the box closer to her as she glances at Maddy.
"Go on, open it ---"
Doing so, Kelsey's eyes begin to widen as she peers into the box. Seeing a framed picture of her, standing in front of the Adams Wrestling Clinic HQ in Eltham, a wide smile across her face. Placing it atop the table, she reaches again into the box, this time pulling out a Icy blue and white jacket. A similar style to the ones that Maddy has worn throughout her extensive career, and with an icy falcon design emblazoned on the right breast.
"Oh my god. I love this, so much."
"I thought you would. I had that picture framed for you - just a way to remember what has led to you being here. A way to know we are ALWAYS with you, no matter what."
"The jacket is a gift from me personally. I had my personal designer make it. Think of it as a way to ensure you always stand out when you walk out to the ring. When people see the shine that emits itself from you."
"Thank you ---"
Speechless, Kelsey simply stares down at the jacket. Feeling the fabric in her hand as she runs her hands up and down it. Entering the room, Bianca smiles, cradling Lucina in her arms. A smile across her own face as she looks at Kelsey.
"We are all super proud of you, Kelsey. Whether or not you win the tournament ---"
Maddy then interjects.
"We know she will though."
"Between all of us, Maddy's right. But that's not to discount anyone else. We just know what you're capable of. Go out there and win this. For us.
"I'll try. I can't promise I will, because they are all tough challenges but you guys have built me for this. I'll go out there and make sure that I do you proud."
"I know you will. You've got this, Kelsey. Bianca's right though, we will ALL be proud of you, no matter what."
It's all smiles now, just as it has been. Kelsey knows that if she glows. If she goes out there and shines, then nothing else will matter. The words. The actions. They will be like water off a duck's back.
"I've got this."
Quietly remarking this, she exhales. That is the mentality she knows she has to take into the ring if she is to have any chance. If she is to become the Ice Queen.
"No moment will be too big. I've been working for this all of my life, and now, I'm not gonna let it go."
"That's the spirit. Believe in yourself and everything will fall into place. Control all that you can and it will all sort itself out."
"I will. This is my chance to make a statement. Send a message that there is nobody who will intimidate me. Nobody who I will back down from."
A new sensation of confidence rushing through her veins, Kelsey simply looks at Bianca and Maddy. Knowing that she plans on making them proud. Of showing just why she is willing to do whatever it takes in order to win the Ice Crown tournament. Regardless of who it might be that stands in her path. It is on them to be aware of her. To step into that ring, so that they can see the warrior spirit that burns inside of her, first hand. All that is left now, is for the action to unfold ---.

Ada’s Apartment - December 30th, 2021
At exactly 8:55 AM, the ‘Slow Rise’ iOS ringtone blares out of Ada’s iPhone, the vibration intensified by the bedside table, causing the phone to slowly move closer and closer to the edge with every buzz. Ada, meanwhile, is in deep sleep, the past few days and the Ice Crown Tournament proving to be more taxing than she could’ve imagined. Eventually, Ada’s phone buzzes itself off the table, crashing down on the floor, the loud bang forcing Pierce out of her slumber. Panicked, startled and delirious, the 22-year-old reaches over to the bedside table, feeling for the phone in the darkness to no avail. It fell off. Of course. It’s not the first time this happens. She sighs before crawling over the edge of the bed, her body aching all over as she feels around the ground for her phone.“Ugh, there you are…” Ada notices the faint hint of light seeping through the curtains, causing her to stressfully and loudly exhale. She wants to stay in bed. Just a few more minutes. But because she sees some light through the curtains, she realizes she overslept. She wraps herself with her blanket before tapping the iPhone’s screen, causing its brightness to nearly blind her as she squints. She can make out several missed notifications, however, and when her blurry vision adjusts, she clearly sees two missed calls and several texts from her Sensei, Sam Burke.
Ada chuckles before locking her phone as she drags herself up, resting against the headboard. As it usually does, Ada’s mind races as she attempts to make out the remnants of her dream. She knows it was one of those that force you to relive a time you’ve been thinking about, and the second her mind races to the upcoming second night of the Ice Crown Tournament, the haze in her head clears up…Iron-Grip, Coach’s Wrestling School - August 5th, 2021
Four days after Ada had put ink to paper with the IIW and a day after the August 4th edition of First Class, Pierce finds herself in the wrestling school owned by a long-time friend of Sensei Sam Burke’s. Not too far from Burke’s Dojo, Ada was referred to this school by Sam after she’d made her intentions to join the wrestling business crystal clear to him. Despite his old buddy’s reputation for being incredibly harsh with his students, Burke figured it was their only option to place Ada in a wrestling environment before her big First Class debut against "Death Wish” Kassidy Owens. Reluctant but always encouraging, the Sensei stands outside the ring next to the school’s owner, “Coach”, as Ada struggles to get back up to her feet, her body feeling the effects of the fifth sparring match she’d just finished against a student of the school. Out of breath, bruised and covered in sweat, Ada grabs the ropes, returning to a vertical base as her then-rampant negative inner voice tells her to quit, the concerned and pained expression on Sensei Burke’s face only adding fuel to the flames of negativity raging in her mind.Feeling like he’s seen enough, Sam simply states “Take a breather, Ada…” in a calm, comforting tone, masking his inner concern for his student’s well-being. Sharply cutting through Sam’s calm voice, however, Coach yells at Ada in response.“NO BREATHERS IN THIS SCHOOL! WHEN YOU ARE IN THIS POSITION IN A MATCH, THEY WILL EAT YOU ALIVE! NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR BREATHER!”Making sure nobody sees him, Sam places the edge of his fingers against Coach’s back before suddenly thrusting his fist, eliciting a high-pitched screech from the hard-ass mentor that none of the students have ever heard before. As they bite their tongues, doing everything in their power to not howl with laughter, Coach turns to Sam before pushing him.“I’m trying to prepare her for what’s coming, Sam! Lay off!” “Tell your students to lay off. This is supposed to be training, not torture. You don’t have to be a drill sergeant about it, idiot. She can understand you.” “No, she CAN NOT. She DOESN’T understand me. Pierce is now a member of the IIW First Class roster. This isn’t some minor league she’s joining up with. She is going to be thrown into the deep-end with the SHARKS whether she likes it or NOT! So don’t tell me how to do my bloody job!” Coach, in a defiant act to prove that’s still the top dog in the school and that his word is the only one that matters, spits on the ground before turning to face Ada in the ring again. As ‘Cockney Thug’ by Rusko blasts through the speakers set up around the ring, Coach orders one of his average-sized students to enter the ring and face off against Ada. The Karateka attempts to will herself to withstand the incoming onslaught she must survive, the onslaught she *needs* to survive after seeing what happened with Solace Tatum in the main event of First Class the other night. After defeating Junko Souma and becoming crowned the Queen of the Ring, a group known as “The Coven” attacked Junko right before Solace’s eyes. This was a foreign concept to Ada, a woman raised by the Sensei to respect her opponents, honouring them in a win or a loss. She was disgusted, but she knew that sooner or later, she would have to deal with wrestlers doing things considered taboo by Sensei. Heinous actions that would get you expelled from the dojo. With all of this running through Ada’s mind, the sample of Alan Ford’s voice from “The Armando Iannucci Shows” played at the beginning of Rusko’s ‘Cockney Thug’ begins:
“When your spirit is floatin’ down that tunnel towards the light, You know what’s behind the light? It’s not God, It’s me. And I’m gonna kick your poncey soul, all the way back down the tunnel, ‘Till you choke on your own fucked up ribs. Now,” “Just like Sam… too soft.”
The bell rings shortly after Coach’s disgusting comment, sending fire coursing through Ada’s veins as Alan Ford’s final line in the sample is delivered.“Wake… the FUCK. UP!”
Out of nowhere, almost as if she was in the schoolyard in 2016 looking into the eyes of her bully, Mike Wilson, Ada becomes numb to the pain in her body. But instead of letting the man in front of her wail on her, she snaps. The comment made about Sam breaks her iron grip over her emotions. Shooting back up to her feet, Ada suddenly unleashes a dangerously accurate flurry of lefts and rights to her opponent’s chest, angrily screaming as she does so before winding back, gnashing her teeth as she throws a spinning heel kick that almost sends the opponent’s skull flying out of the ring and into Coach’s lap. Almost feeling like the world has gone into slow-motion, she spots two of the remaining five opponents rolling into the ring as per Coach’s orders. Ada’s eyes turn slowly turn bloodshot as the two students rush her. The Sensei’s teachings echo in her head as she can’t help but feel intimidated by her much larger challengers, but the echoes in her mind remind her that size isn’t everything. Size, in these cases, works against you. Your own momentum will prove to be your undoing. As she sprints at them, ducking under their clothesline, Ada leaps into the air, her feet landing on the middle ropes as the Sensei’s jaw drops. Remembering Solace Tatum on First Class the night prior, Ada begins to hear the sounds of an imaginary crowd cheering for her, giving her the strength she needs in the same manner the fans gave Solace the inspiration to rescue Junko from the Coven’s heinous attack.“Ayyy-da! Ayyy-da! Ayyy-da! Ayyy-da!”
Driven by her emotions, her heart, the imaginary cheers she cannot wait to hear when she debuts in IIW and the inspiring actions of Solace Tatum on First Class, Ada slingshots herself off the ropes, flipping over the incoming opponent, whose eyes are on the verge of popping out of their sockets as he sees Ada’s hand crashing down on his face with a brutal karate chop! The landing isn’t graceful as Ada crashes and burns next to the unconscious, chopped opponent, giving his large partner the chance to capitalize. Although muffled, Ada hears the Sensei yelling at the top of his lungs, causing her nerves to go haywire as her opponent grabs her by the throat, harshly pulling her up to her feet before chucking her at the turnbuckles in the corner. Arching her back in pain, Ada fights through it, still seeing red as her opponent dashes in for a haymaker to her face. Easily ducking under it, Ada swiftly turns around to her off-balanced opponent’s back, reaching over to grab and pull the same arm he attempted to use to punch her head off, successfully using his momentum against him as she almost executes a judo-like throw that sends him crashing face-first on the mat. Sizing him up for the spinning heel kick that worked wonders earlier, Ada stalks him, waiting for him to get back up as the Sensei’s muffled yells slowly become more audible. With her gargantuan opponent back up to his feet and beginning to turn around, Ada lets out a blood-curdling battle cry as she shoots her leg at his head, stopping just short of decapitating her opponent when the Sensei’s hand suddenly enters her field of vision, blocking her foot.“ENOUGH!!!” Ada’s eyes widen as the Sensei stops her dead in her tracks, his yell echoing down the halls of the gym. Sam looks Ada dead in her eyes, shaking his head. This is not the way. He doesn’t care how zoned in she was or how invigorating it was to put these punks in their place and shut the Coach up. She must never, ever lose control over her emotions.“Oi! What’s the big idea, Sam!? Let her fight! This is the fire I wanted to see from her!” Sam’s eyes literally twitch in anger as he slowly turns his attention to the hollering Coach. Rolling out of the ring, Sam stomps his way over to Coach, whose mouth is running at a billion kilometres per hour before shutting him up as Sam thrusts his forearm against the Coach’s throat, rushing him all the way against the wall. The school is left speechless as visible fear can be seen in the Coach’s eyes as Sam stares him down. Realizing that this has gone off the rails, Ada awkwardly bows at the challenger she almost decapitated before quickly rolling out of the ring, running to her Sensei and grabbing his arm.“…S-Sensei… I’m sorry… it’s okay… just calm down…” “It’s not your fault.” the Sensei responds in a stern tone as he retracts his forearm, prompting Coach to begin coughing as he crumbles down to a knee. The Sensei storms off, and just as Ada is about to give chase, the Coach addresses her.“Oi… y-you… you did… you did good… just… what I want to see… that’s how… you survive, little girl…” Ada looks down at him with disgust before turning around, following the Sensei who’s already in his car, slamming the door shut. She frantically grabs her bag, slipping into her flip flops before busting through the doors out of the school. She walks up to the passenger side of the car only to spot the Sensei aggressively mumbling to himself inside, forcing her to think twice about entering, her mind racing to prepare herself for the lecture coming her way. Fortunately, the Sensei catches himself failing to follow his own advice to control one’s emotions, turning to Ada, motioning at her to enter the car. Reluctantly, she opens the rear door, placing her bag on the backseat before shutting it and taking her seat on the passenger side. Awkward silence takes over, save for the Sensei’s monitored and calculated breathing. Sam meditates for a moment, shutting his eyes as Ada innocently does the same, meditating next to her mentor. After about twenty seconds, Sam finally turns the engine on before turning to Ada. Before he can even speak, Ada instantly apologizes through her shaky cadence.“I-I’m sorry, Sens-“ “It’s not your fault.” Ada turns her head, nodding as she looks down on the worn-out floor mat after the Sensei interrupted her before she could even explain herself. A far cry from their developed relationship by the end of 2021. Still, feeling guilt, the Sensei decides to just… speak.“Look, kid… What happened in there was not your fault. I just… this is exactly what I…” Ada turns to the Sensei as he finds it nigh-on impossible to finish his thought, fearing he may put a damper on his student’s dreams. Still, Ada places her hand on his shoulder as she nods, letting him know that it’s okay. He can speak his mind. Still reluctant, he continues.“This… is exactly what I’m worried about. Combat sports. Wrestling, MMA. It’s just… barbaric. Pointless. The majority, and I mean the majority of the people who get into this are doing it to satiate their sick thirst for sadism. Only justifying their heinous acts to say it’s all to win gold, make a name for themselves. This isn’t what I taught you. This goes against… everything I believe in. There is no honour in any of this.” Ada feels a hole in her stomach growing as an uncomfortably chill sensation washes over her chest. She knew that the Sensei would disapprove of her decision to take her Karate talents into the world of professional wrestling. To an extent, she agrees with him. She saw how everything went to shit after Solace Tatum defeated Junko Souma in the Queen of the Ring tournament, the way the Coven showed no mercy to Junko after the war she went through. Ada would be lying if she said she didn’t think twice, almost regret signing the IIW contract after seeing what she saw. But it only took a minute for Ada’s decision to become a wrestler to be validated when Solace protected the very woman she was just trying to destroy. Solace bravely fought tooth and nail, a woman possessed, taking on the entirety of the Coven all by herself. For what felt like an eternity, the Queen of the Ring dished out Tatum Bombs like it was Free Tatum Bomb Wednesday, fighting off the hyenas of the Coven. That display reminded Ada of the stronger side of her as a teen when she finally stood up to her bully. And despite the Sensei’s protests, she knew that this is what she wanted to do next in her life. Frustrated, Ada responds to him.“That’s not true.” mumbled Ada. “…What?” Sam responded, confused.“It’s not all barbaric. It’s not all done for self-gain. I know this. I know this because I’ve seen it. Every time I switch on Monday Night Mayhem and see Curtis perform, I can’t help but smile. That guy’s energy is just… too infectious. Whenever I tune into First Class, I’m… frankly, inspired by Solace Tatum. To me, she’s like a polished version of what I wanted to be when I stood up to Mike. I wanted to set an example to everyone in school that, if you feel weak, if you feel helpless, you shouldn’t. Because you’re strong. The bullies that run in packs, picking on others for no reason… They’re the ones who’re weak.” Filled with conviction, Ada continues as the slightest of slight smiles forms on Sam’s face.“You taught me to control my emotions, Sensei. And I always think of those words. I always do. But sometimes… sometimes you have to follow your heart. You have to do what your heart tells you is the right thing to do. That’s what Solace did last night. She looked at three women… three evil women… but she had thousands of people in attendance, many more watching home, like me. We all had her back. We gave her the strength to do the impossible. And she felt it. And I…” Ada struggles to finish her thought as a tear rolls down her reddened cheek.“…I want to feel that too… I want to inspire people… after the all the pain, the suffering I've been through... it’s… it’s all I’ve ever wanted…!” Ada breaks, burying her face into her bruised hands as she lets everything out. Meanwhile, Sam remembers the day Ada held back, refusing to fight back against her bully. He remembers Ada’s bruised face, blaming himself for it. Suddenly, he feels like a fool. A fool that, in his quest to protect Ada, in his mind, has led her down the wrong path before. And maybe… maybe he should shut up and listen. Maybe he needs to believe in her as she believed in him for the past half-decade. Suddenly, he feels a tear rolling down his cheek. Panicking, he quickly wipes it off as Ada is none the wiser. Finally convinced and downright inspired by her words, the Sensei leans over, hugging Ada as tightly as he can as she hugs him back.Burke’s Dojo - December 30th, 2021
Parked outside Burke’s Dojo, Ada wipes a tear off her cheek before pausing the music in the car. The song she was playing during the drive over to the dojo? ‘Cockney Thug’ by Rusko, doing nothing but reliving that day over and over in her head since leaving the apartment up until she parked her car outside the dojo. After turning the engine off, Ada takes a moment to meditate, shutting her eyes.“These last five months… they really were something, weren’t they…?” Ada can’t help but smile. Just five months ago, she was a wide-eyed fan of First Class and now… here she is. Not only did she quickly find herself in the Coven’s crosshairs after debuting, but she would also end up partnering with Solace Tatum to exact vengeance on them for everything they’d done to both of them. From watching Solace survive hellish matches before being crowned the Queen of the Ring to participating in the historic Ice Crown Tournament with a shot at the Evolution championship just weeks away. For the first time in a while, Ada takes a moment to think of everything she’s accomplished. And it’s through this moment of peace that she realizes… Solace deserves to be trusted. When Ada was alone and lost in the wrestling world, it was Solace that protected and downright saved her career during their tag match against Jolie Vexx and Mercedes-Jane Debonair. And now… now Ada is in a tournament of her own. A tournament that she now knows she *must* win. Not just for herself, but for everyone who believed in her, for people like Kelsey Frost, newcomers with the same pure mentality Ada had as a rookie.“Earth to Ada!” Ada’s meditation is cut short as one of the newest students in Burke’s Dojo, Marcus, pops out of the entrance, waving and yelling to her. She waves back before exiting the car, locking it as she approaches the entrance, fist-bumping Marcus on her way inside the dojo.“I hear you’re giving the old man hell, Marcus.” jokes the Karateka as she playfully smacks Marcus on the shoulder. “Psht, it ain’t like that! We’re just really proud of you, Ada!” Ada smiles at Marcus as she shuts the entrance door behind her, greeting Sensei Sam, the other new student and fellow Ada Pierce/First Class fanboy, Nolan. Having slipped out of her shoes, Ada removes her leather jacket before sitting down on the mats as Marcus sprints to the back room to get something. While Marcus retrieves… whatever he’s retrieving, Ada turns to face the Sensei, only to be blindsided by a sandwich shoved in her face. Laughing, Ada accepts it.“I figured you would’ve probably demolished it by now.” “Quiet, you.” responds the Sensei before pulling off an Ada-esque pout, cracking the Karateka up as she takes her first bite of the sandwich.“Thrish irsh rearly gord!” Pierce exclaims, and despite his attempts to hold it back, the Sensei chuckles before facepalming, shaking his head. Finally, Marcus returns, proudly slamming down a stack of low-quality, cut-out A4 prints of the remaining Ice Crown Tournament competitors’ promotional biographies. Bewildered, Ada and Sam stare at each other before looking up at Marcus. “Whartsh dish?” Ada questions with a mouthful of food.“This is a collection of every remaining competitor in the tournament! Shawn Wylde! Kelsey Frost! Terry Marshall! Etha-“ “No, I know who’s left! I’m just asking, like… why? Weren’t we supposed to train today?” Pierce questions, raising her brow.Marcus’ smile grows wider, nodding at Nolan, who’s nodding back at him, before responding.“This is me and Nolan thankin’ ya for taking the time to train with us so close to the final round of the tournament. We know how busy you’ve been with the Sensei and the tournament, so we took the liberty of setting up a… report, so to speak. The history of every competitor, their match history, finishers, everythin’!” Ada shoves what’s left of the sandwich in her mouth as she grabs the first print: Alessia Capello. A woman who, like Ada, has quickly risen to the top of the First Class food-chain, and yet, their paths have yet to cross. Curious, the Sensei grabs the print after Alessia’s: Ethan Rivers. Much like “The Karateka” Ada Pierce, “The Pinnacle” Ethan Rivers made his IIW Mayhem debut just one month after she debuted in First Class. Both with guaranteed championship matches in 2022, Ada's rise in First Class as well as Ethan’s in Mayhem have been incredibly similar to each others’, with no wrestlers thus far managing to pin or submit them in the ring. Impressed by the detailed stats, research and match history, Ada looks up at Marcus to express her appreciation of their efforts.“Marcus, I… I don’t know what to say. Thank you. You know… with people like Ethan, Alessia… Kelsey Frost, Shawn Wylde… I’m aware of them. But with everything going on recently, I haven’t had the time to truly study their in-ring abilities and styles.”
“That’s why we did it for you!” excitedly exclaims the rookie student of the dojo as Ada smiles at him.“Marcus, Nolan… thank you. Thank you so much.” Ada rises back up to her feet before bowing ever so deeply to the students, sending chills down their spines. They’d both joined the dojo in an effort to learn from Burke after the mini-documentary aired months back that detailed the dojo’s history and Ada Pierce’s status as the top student. Overwhelmed, all they can do is bow back at her as Sam smiles.“Great work, you two. NOW!” “Agh!” “TIME FOR TRAINING!” Ada tilts her head, squinting her eyes at the Sensei, judging him for giving Marcus and Nolan the, as she calls it, “Super-Duper-Ultra-Serious-Sensei-Mode-Arcade-Edition”.“What! I can’t do this with you anymore! It’s their turn!” Blown away, Marcus and Nolan face each other with widened eyes.“Woooaaah, we’re like Ada when she first started out here!” “SILENCE!” “SILENCE!” In perfect unison, both Ada and Sam engage “Super-Duper-Ultra-Serious-Sensei-Mode-Arcade-Ultra-Ultimate-Edition” mode, startling the students.“…Hey, that was actually pretty satisfying!” “Right?” Laughing, Ada claps her hands, rubbing her palms together as she prepares herself to train with the students.“Alright, show me what you’ve picked up.” Sam takes a few steps away as Ada is laser-focused on Marcus and Nolan. Not looking to make it obvious, Sam opts to let Ada lead the training on this day. Smiling, he’s beyond proud of everything she has accomplished since becoming a wrestler, and after giving it much thought, he is looking to see if Ada has what it takes to take the lead as a Sensei herself… for personal reasons. Watching Marcus and Nolan display their techniques, Ada’s eyes widen as they almost perfectly replicate the very same attacks she used at the wrestling school five months ago prior to her debut. Nolan rushes in with a strike as Marcus beautifully ducks under it, reaching back, grabbing Nolan’s arm before using his own momentum against him as he’s slammed down on the mats.“Bloody hell!” Ada yells out inadvertently, shocked by their near-perfect execution. Marcus and Nolan, however, immediately doubt themselves, fearing they may have gone too far.“Sorry!” “No! Nothing to be sorry for! That was… perfect!” “R-Really!?” Marcus and Nolan high-five, huge smiles on their faces, feeling pretty proud of themselves. Ada, meanwhile, is taken aback by their technique. It immediately brings her back to an idea she pondered before Night One of the Ice Crown Tournament, an idea she figured would be too time-consuming, and with the stay in New York with Vickie, the Bloodsport event, she couldn’t pull it off… but now…“Marcus… show me the K.O.” Marcus proudly nods at Ada as Nolan steps away, giving his partner the space he needs. Shutting his eyes, Marcus takes a deep, deep breath… before faking a low kick at the exact same time he begins spinning, executing Ada’s spinning heel kick with perfect torque, perfect form, perfect technique. The Karateka cannot help but gasp in shock, the best kind of shock, at Marcus’ technique.“How was it?” Marcus asks, holding his breath. To his joy, Ada simply nods before applauding in awe. As if that wasn’t enough, Sensei Burke joins in, clapping for Marcus, adding to his encouragement.“Nolan, are you comfortable with taking that if Marcus can control his strike?” “Of course!” “Marcus?” “I can control it!” “Show me.” To no one’s surprise at this point, Marcus and Nolan’s chemistry as sparring partners produces the best result Ada and Burke could’ve hoped for. Applauding their execution once more as the students bow to Ada and Sam.“I… have an idea…” Ada turns to Sam, but before she could go into detail, she’s taken aback by the giant, proud smile on the Sensei’s face.“What?” “Nothing.” Confused, Ada simply smiles back at the Sensei before pulling her phone out, quickly inputting the four-digit passcode, texting her best friend, Vickie Burke.Ada’s smile grows wider. As if she didn’t already walk into the dojo feeling like a million bucks, her confidence has skyrocketed even further. Sliding her phone back inside her pocket, Ada squats down, grabbing the prints of the remaining Ice Crown Tournament competitors. Turning to Sam, Ada approaches him.“Sens-… Sam. I’m ready. I’m ready for the finals.” Burke simply smiles back at Ada, placing his hand on her shoulder.“I know you are, kid.” Ada leans in, quickly hugging the Sensei before running to the back room.“I’ll be back in ten minutes, max! Keep it up, guys!” Marcus and Nolan bow to Ada before turning to face the Sensei. Sam simply shrugs.“Go on. Do your… wrestling… Karate finishing move drills.” Happily obliging, the students return to practising their Pierce-inspired movesets as the Sensei walks over to the entrance, staring out at the cloudy sky. The past five months have been as important to him as they’ve been to Ada. With a huge year ahead of her, Sam has dedicated himself to supporting the woman he considers his daughter in any way he possibly can. Despite his initial objections, protests and warped view of the wrestling world, the Sensei warmed up to it all. Looking back at the two bright-eyed students that joined this Dojo because of Ada, Sam’s smile grows ever so slightly as he looks back up at the sky. Suddenly, for whatever reason, the Sensei begins to cough… he feels… winded. Whatever it has, it hit him like a ton of bricks. Feeling another coughing fit coming, Sam covers his mouth with his right hand before letting it all out. Marcus and Nolan notice this, pausing their sparring to check in on Sam.“Sensei! You alright!?” yells the concerned Marcus.“Urgh… ahem… I’m fine.” the Sensei responds, smiling. The students nod, noticing that, whatever just happened to Sam has seemingly passed as he clears his throat. However, upon looking at his hand… Sam’s heart skips a beat. Eyes widening… he sees blood on his palm…

It's almost here. Night two of the Ice Crown tournament, where 7 competitors are vying for the chance. The opportunity to be known as the Ice Queen or Ice King and the prestige such a title will hold. The right to claim that they were the one who was able to stand tall. The one who went out there and overcame whoever they needed to, and did what was ultimately required of them to walk out with the victory.
One of those 7 remaining, is Kelsey Frost, who just as she has been ever since she left the arena following her Night One win over Brandon Hendrix, is solely focused on what awaits her. On the challenges that lay ahead for her. That has been the focus of her training and strategy throughout the past fortnight - both with Kristy and Bianca and on her own.
Making sure that she is at her mental and physical peak when she steps into the ring - whether that be against Ada Pierce, which she desires, or Shawn Wylde. Those 2 have been her primary focus, as they are the ones she is awaiting following their own bout, however, that doesn't mean that she hasn't been looking over at the other side of the bracket. At the 4 names that she may very well meet in the finals, should she make it that far.
2 of those names in particular. Ethan Rivers, who is a team mate of her own mentor and the one she remembers him remarking he wanted her to face in the finals and Alessia Capello, who she had addressed previously and who she knows wishes to face off against Ada Pierce. That doesn't bother her - if those 2 wish to do battle, then she isn't going to stand between them, for their issues do not involve her. Though what DOES involve her, is the Ice Crown tournament and the fact that Alessia is attempting to make it out as if her winning is a fait accompli. That everybody else, including Kelsey, is just there to be fed to her.
"Don't count me out."
Kelsey whispers this to herself, as she looks at the framed picture that Maddy had given her, raised above her head as she lays on her bed. That has been her motto. That very statement has been what has driven her ever since it was announced that she would be competiting in the tournament. Ever since she would be stepping out of the shadows and into the lignt when it comes to wrestling. It fuels her desire. Her flame.
For she has been counted out before - she has seen and heard people who see her as nothing more than a name. A face, there to have fun but no threat when it comes to winning. Both when she was at gymnastic events and when it comes to the Ice Crown. Both competitors and fans alike. Each and every time they counted her out, she remembered. She kept those words in the back of her mind when she stepped up. When she went out there and competed.
"I'll prove you wrong. No matter what it takes."
That was her mindset going into those competitions, just as it her mindset going into Night Two. Just as she stated whilst in the park, she knows that she isn't the biggest, that she isn't the strongest or the fastest in the ring. What she DOES have, is an undying spirit. The heart of a warrior and the ability to withstand whatever people may wish to throw at her and remain standing. Remain there, waiting for them to give her more punishment. To her, it doesn't matter how much they beat her. It doesn't matter how much agony and pain rushes through her body. As long as she can still stand. As long as she can still breathe, she will fight. She will give them everything she can, just as she always has. Just as she always will.
"This is where it all began. This was the day I began taking the steps that have led me to this point ---"
Her eyes remaining fixated on the picture, she feels her eyes beginning to glaze over as she thinks back to that day. To when she set foot inside of the Clinic and truly experienced what it meant to be a professional wrestler. When she truly began to understand what it meant to take that next step, as it is so called. She had been training for 2 years previous, but compared to what she went through at the training camp - that was child's play.
It taught her the fundamentals and set her foundation, yes, but THIS was where she was truly tested. This was where she begun to harness the undying spirit referenced when talking about her. Day after day, she would take herself to a level she had never thought was possible, no matter how much her body screamed in agony. No matter how loud the little voice within her head screamed at her to take a breather, she wouldn't. She couldn't.
For she knew that she needed to put all her effort into this. She needed to learn how to continue persevering through those barriers. Those screams and show that she was ready. That she was built for this. She knew that all the pain that she was going through. All the intense sessions Alyce, Ricky and Emily were crafting for her were done so that she could discover the passion. The fire and harness it. Contain it within herself so that she can call upon it and command it.
"It is then, that I discovered who I truly am. It is then, that I understood the sort of fighter. The sort of person that I would need to be, if I am to thrive within this world. If I am to become the star that illuminates the sky and truly fly."
Reaching across, she gently places the picture on her bedside table, her eyes remaining fixated on it as a soft sigh floats into the air. She wouldn't change anything about the path that she has taken to this point, even if she had the time all over again. It was what molded her into who she is. It is what created the bubbly yet fierce competitor that stood in that ring against Brandon, just as she will against either Ada or Shawn, and then even potentially against one of Ethan, Alessia, Terry or Edda.
Just the way she wishes for it to be. It is there, that set the wheels in motion for her to even catch the eye of the General Manager of First Class, Solace Tatum. A statement that caused a smile to cross her face when she heard it whilst watching her bout with Brandon back during film review and causes another smile to appear at this very moment. Her focus is on the tournament first and foremost, but it makes her feel warm and fuzzy inside that she has managed to capture eyes and have people paying attention to her.
To what she is doing inside of the ring, even this early into her career. A lot of people don't get this opportunity. This chance that she has, which is why she promised that she wasn't gonna let it pass her by. Why she wouldn't simply see it as a way to dip her toes into the water, but would approach it as if it is the last opportunity she will ever get. Just as Scotty had told her to, even if she is also making sure to have fun and enjoy it for what it is.
"I may never get another moment like this - I may never find myself in this position again, so I cannot let it go to waste. I will not let it slip through my fingers. I will not fail, because I cannot fail. I cannot afford to watch this fade away before my eyes."
Her words a pep talk to herself, she sits up, pressing her back gently against her pillow and the wall as she thinks about everything. About just how she plans on approaching her possible match with Ada. A match that has been referred to as 'both looking into a mirror' and the match that she had remarked a few days ago was the one she wishes to occur. That is why Bianca asked Kristy to fly in and help out - who better to help plan for a karate specialist than somebody who is renowned for her own karate skills and is a top karateka in her own right?
Kelsey isn't afraid to admit that Kristy has kicked her ass and left her laying on more than one occasion, but with each session. Each strike and kick, she understood just what makes Ada so dangerous in the ring. She was able to experience just what might be coming her way if they do end up facing off. She realises that nothing short of her absolute best. Nothing short of everything she has and then some is gonna be enough to defeat Ada. To survive her onslaughts, which is exactly what Kelsey intends on giving her. Just as she knows Ada will be giving her everything that she has. The same applies for Shawn Wylde, if he is the one who she must face.
"Nothing else matters but the match that lies ahead. Regardless of who it may be that I face. Ada or Shawn, because I plan on continuing to fly. Continuing to sparkle and shine bright, no matter what happens. The two of you are what matters most to me right now --- everything else, I will deal with when I arrive at the time to."
"You two are both great in your own ways. It's just as I said the last time I spoke about you. I know you can take me to my limits. I know what you two offer in the ring and how you fight for what you believe in, just as I do. That is what ties us together. It is why we find ourselves walking along this path, preparing to face off, holding the hopes of becoming the Ice Crown winner within our hearts. Knowing that the other is a frontier we must cross if we are to hold it within our hands."
Her breathing relaxing, her eyes begin to burn with desire. With a focused energy, just as they do whenever she steps into the ring. She wants them to know that she doesn't plan on giving either of them a free passage to the finals. Just as they won't be intending on giving her a free passage there. She wants them to know that they cannot count her out. That they cannot make the same mistakes that Alessia is making when it comes to her. That they cannot put too much weight into what Erick Elliott remarked about her, because if they do, then they will find out that it is the worst mistake they could have ever made.
"I wouldn't have it any other way ---."
Exhaling, she glances up at the light on her ceiling. Staring directly into it as it shines against her eyes.
"Tomorrow, we dance with fate --- tomorrow is where it all falls into place and we see just who can truly call the crown theirs. Do your worst and I'll do mine. This is what I have been built for. This is where I take my next step into this world."
Lowering her head, Kelsey leans back, letting it all truly sink in. Tomorrow, the world gets to see where she stands. Tomorrow, she intends on running the gauntlet and walking out as the holder of the Ice Crown, no matter what it will take. It is what she promised them she would do. ---
Alone. Sitting in the middle of the very same ring that she will be competing in tomorrow night and looking out at the empty seats and wearing the specially made jacket Maddy gave her as well as a baby blue t-shirt and jeans, Kelsey looks down the ramp. Imagining herself making her way down it, with the sounds of the fans filling the arena. Her heart pounding and knots forming inside of her stomach as she glances out at the stands. Her eyes begin to water as she turns her head to look at the presently empty stands.
"This has all been a dream to me --- this is where I know I am supposed to be. This is where I feel most at home --- but it wasn't always this way."
Her voice quivering, she thinks back to her time in high school, where she had felt like she would never find her calling. Where she had allowed people's words cut her deep. Where she had felt as if she was simply useless, no matter how good a student she was. To her, gymnastics and wrestling were escapes from that. Places she could go if she just wanted to isolate herself and block out everything.
"I wasn't always supposed to be here. I wasn't always meant to have this opportunity. I was just another young girl. Another child who felt like she would never truly find her place. Somebody who let the words of others get to her and cause her to question just who she was. Ask herself if it was worth fighting any more? If it was worth trying, when all it would result in was failure?"
"Every night, I would go home and watch wrestling in an attempt to escape it all. Find a world in which I could become the person I knew I could be. The person who would eventually find herself playing the role of a hero. An inspiration to children and women everywhere, just like those who were on the screen in front of my eyes. Deep down, I wanted to be just like them. I imagined that one day, I would stand in the ring and say that I did it. That I had made it."
A tear beginning to run down her cheek, she smiles. Looking around her before staring back down the ramp.
"That I had reached the pinnacle. That is why I am here. For even though now I can say that I have made it. That the child that dreamt is now living out her reality, I am still that young girl back home in Bundoora, lying on her bed and looking up. Wishing that she could just float away and reside in a world where she was blissful. Where she could truly find peace and happiness. Where she could escape from a world that was telling her what she couldn't be."
"A world that was tearing her apart and breaking her from within. Yet here I stand and in just one day's time, I have the opportunity to show just what I can do. Show that it doesn't matter what people say. That it doesn't matter what they might tell you when you're growing up, because they don't define you. They aren't the ones who are walking in your shoes, living the life that you are. They aren't the ones who hold hopes and dreams within their hands."
Passion oozes from each word that she speaks, as a fired up expression appears across her face. You can see just how much this subject matter means to her. How much she wishes to inspire those who may be in the same position that she was back when she was in her formulative years and even her early teens. Those who are still finding their way within this world.
"You are. You are the ones who can become whatever it is you desire. Whatever it is you wish to become, as long as you believe in yourself. As long as you give it everything you have and make sure that the passion flows within your body. Just look at me. Look at how far I have come from the girl who was afraid. The girl who was scared, because she let them get to her. "
"She allowed them to plant seeds of doubt inside of her head, until I said no more. Until I realised that as long as I had faith in myself. As long as I still had the flame within me, that I COULD become what I desired. That I COULD be the woman that I wanted to be, and tomorrow, you will all see what happens when somebody truly believes that they can overcome anything."
"What happens when you stop allowing words get to you and set about proving each and every one of them wrong. When you stop being afraid and start standing up to those who thought they could cut you down. Those who thought they could look past you and onto those they deemed as more important. They will learn that all they did by trying to tell you what you cannot be, is drive you into showing them what you CAN be. What you ARE becoming."
Her words echoing throughout the arena, she looks around at the stands once more. Picturing them as being full of people who are hanging onto every single one of her words. Whether they be children or adults. Yet there is a single person sitting in the stands, on the 3rd level and with a hood over their head. Staring down at her and listening intently as they stand, and unbeknownest to her, begin to make their way down the stairs.
"If nobody believes in you. If there is nowhere you feel you can turn, just know that I believe in you. That even if we do not know one another, I know that you can shine. I know that you can become a butterfly that rises from its caccoon just as I did. Know that I will always believe in you. That I will ALWAYS fight for you, each and every time I step into this ring."
"This isn't just my journey. This isn't just my road, it is all of our roads. We are all journeying this road together, as we head towards the Ice Crown. As we show the world. As we show those who tried to break us that we are unbreakable. That we are unkillable. That there is nothing that they can do to stop us when we all stand together. When we unify as one."
Standing, Kelsey beams as she extends her arms out, as if she is ready to embrace the world. As if she is offering herself as the vessal of their hopes. Their dreams. Their aspirations. For that is what she desires. That is what she has sworn to do. That is the badge she wishes to wear. The one of those who wish to believe in themselves and the ones who nobody else believes in.
"This isn't just a dream. This isn't just a wishful thought any more. I am no longer scared of what might happen if I fail. I am unafraid of the scars they may leave, because they make me stronger. They make me want more and to show them that no matter what they throw at me. No matter how many times they may take me down. No matter how much they make me bleed, I will still rise. I will always come back for more. That it won't be enough to break me or the fire that resides within me. For I fight for you. The dreamers. The outcasts. The ones who they thought they could cast aside."
"This glory will be for all of us. Just as it will be for those who helped me get to the position I find myself in right now. Those who paved the way so that I can shine. So, Ada, Shawn, Edda, Alessia, Ethan and Terry, I want you to know that even though I respect you. Even though I know what you are all capable of in this ring. As much as I know you all have more prestige. More legacy than I do, that I am not going to back down."
"I am not gonna stand aside for you, but what I WILL do is give you a fight. A battle. A war and I will not relent, because this isn't just about me. This isn't just about the Ice Crown for me. It is about being an example for those who wish to dream. For those who feel like all hope is lost. Who feel as if the world is willing to throw them away, for we stand as one."
"On our own, we may appear weak but together, we are a force beyond anything you have ever seen before. This is about me holding their hopes in my hands and showing them that when you believe in yourself. When you have faith that what you are doing is the right course for you, then you can achieve anything you desire. That is why I am here."
"That is why I am going to look you in the eye tomorrow in this ring and show you that no matter if you think I am some 130 pound diva. Or just a speedbump standing in the way of a destined match up, or even if you see me as just another person, I will take whatever you may throw at me and keep rising. Keep standing here until you undstand that I am more than just a face. That I am not just a name. And if you believe you can count us out. If you believe you can overlook me. Overlook us, then you are about to be in for a surprise that you may not like."
Walking over to the turnbuckles on the bottom right hand side corner, she sits atop the top turnbuckle, looking out to the stands, then down the ramp. Hoping that everybody hears the battle cry. The call to unity she wishes to state. It is then that the hooded figure takes a seat in the front row of the stands, watching her.
"For no more can you ignore us. No more are we gonna allow you to tell us what we cannot do. We are taking charge of our own destinies. I am stepping up and showing you what I CAN be. What I AM. What WE are and there is not a single person who is going to stand in my way. I am Kelsey Frost, the woman who plans on ensuring that no matter what it takes. No matter how far I have to go. No matter how far I have to push my body, I WILL walk out as the Ice Queen. The one who proved that no matter how strong you are. No matter how fast you are. No matter how tall you are, it does not compare to the heart. The passion. The flame that resides within me. That resides within US."
Pointing out to the crowd, she jumps down, landing back in the ring as the sound of clapping can be heard and the figure pulls back their hood, revealing that it is Scotty. He had come to see her before she competes tomorrow. Smiling, she notices him and smiles.
"Do your worst and I'll do mine. Tomorrow, you will find out just how much desire truly resides within us all. Within me Just how far I am willing to go, in order to take the crown. I only hope that you can say the same."
Rolling out of the ring, she walks over to Scotty, who smiles. Proud of how far his protege has come and how she has never lost sight of what truly drives her.
"Did I do well? What did you think?"
He nods.
"You did great. I can feel how much this means to you - I can sense that passion that Alyce told me you had. I know you'll give it you all, which is all I can ask."
She smiles, sitting atop the guardrail.
"I just wanna be their hero. I want to be the girl they look up to, just as Alyce was for me. I want them to see just what it means to shine."
"Just make sure that you never lose sight of who you are, because we all know the famous saying about heroes. As long as you stay true to the person you are. The woman who made it here, you can do anything you desire. It may not be easy, but it is the only way you can truly become the butterfly you were destined to be.'
"I know. I plan on just being Kelsey. Being the woman I have always been. No matter what."
"I know you will."
He then ponders his next statement. Remembering all that Bianca told him about her training and her meeting with Maddy in the time he was back home in Australia. When he was enjoying the break period and recouperating his own injuries.
"So, I heard you trained with Kristy?"
She nods joyfully.
"Yeah! It was awesome. She kicked my ass a few times, but I learnt a lot from her. Especially when it came to using my kicks to my advantage."
Laughing, Scott knows all about the lethal kicks Kristy has at her disposal. Both by witnessing them and even taking a few of them himself. He also knows that she is the perfect sparring partner for Kelsey, considering the fact Ada Pierce is one of her possible opponents.
"Haha, yeah. Those kicks of hers are deadly. She's a master of them, so I'm sure she would have shown you a few you can add to your disposal. Especially against an opponent like Ada."
"She did!"
"Anyway, we should probably get back home. Dinner's probably ready and you need to rest up for tomorrow. This is your chance to show all of us just why we have faith in you. Prove just why you belong here."
Turning her body, Kelsey stands up, next to Scotty before laughing softly. She was already intending on doing that.
"Don't worry, I will. I promise."
The two then walk off, knowing that no matter what happens. Win or lose, Kelsey will have accomplished more than ANYONE expected her to. Though as she stated during her rally call and all along this road, she plans on winning. She intends to become the Ice Queen and to show just why you cannot count her out. Why she is truly an unbreakable spirit between those ropes. Tomorrow is when we find out just what she is capable of. Just what she is willing to do, in order to finish the job. To fulfil her promise.

Ice Crown Tournament: The Karateka's Address
The video begins as we fade into a white void. Seconds go by as the sound of footsteps draw nearer, growing louder. Eventually, Ada Pierce makes her way into the frame before standing directly in the middle of the shot, a shot that’s reminiscent of Morpheus in the Matrix’s Construct. The long-shot reveals Ada’s casual outfit as she faces us, wearing a black leather jacket, white tank top, black cargo pants and converse shoes. Cutting from the long shot to a medium close-up of her smiling face, Ada finally addresses us.“‘Ello! I’m Ada Pierce. Five months ago, I signed my IIW contract and became a member of the First Class roster. For the past six years, I’ve been studying, mastering my craft as a Karateka under the tutelage of Sensei Samuel Burke. I had a slight background before joining the Dojo, but it didn’t matter. My Sensei taught me everything from scratch, and I’m not just talking about the physical aspect of what I do.”The camera follows Ada as she begins to walk across the white void as she continues, giving way to the background music by Quiet Quest to begin playing.
“The physical aspect is, dare I say, easy. The mental side of it all, however, is the tough one. Our physical limitations, the barriers between us and greatness, can be broken through hard work. Take it from me, a girl who grew up in the arcades mashing buttons to repeating one combo-string countless times in her free time. Do something long enough while taking note of your mistakes and you will master it. But what gives you the ability to learn from your mistakes and grow even strong…” With the encouraging smile on her face slightly fading, Ada’s tone shifts to a more stern, confident one as she turns to face the camera, raising her hand as she points her index finger at her head.“…Is this. It starts in your head. Your head is where you must accept that you are no different from anyone else for making said mistakes. It’s through those mistakes that you can break through your limits, crash through the glass ceiling and go past the sky’s limit. This is where it starts. Your mind. Your worst enemy or your greatest friend.” Moving her hand, Ada lowers it before placing her palm on her chest, the white void beginning to evolve ever so slightly as we spot her long hair subtly blowing with the wind.“But everything I just said would be meaningless, pointless even if it wasn’t for our hearts. Your heart is what enables you to get back up every time you hit the ground. It’s what numbs you to the shooting pains in your body during training, numbs you to the bruises inflicted upon you by your opponents in the ring who’re looking to end your career. This is the source of your strength. The well you draw upon to do great things.” A full smile returns to Ada’s face as she resumes her walk through the void, the camera following her.“Ever since Night One of the Ice Crown Tournament, a wise man’s words have echoed in my head. When I made my intentions to become a wrestler clear to everyone in my life, the man lectured me. Of course, I know he didn’t mean for it to come out that way, but we know how loved ones can be, don’t we? I knew it was out of concern. So I listened.” Ada stops once more, but this time, she does not turn to face the camera. Instead, she takes a deep breath before recounting the man’s words, her smile completely wiped off her blank face as the white void begins to dim.“He claimed that the world of combat sports iz barbaric. Pointless. Mindless violence driving it all. I disagreed at the time, vehemently stating my case for the contrary. But fast forward to today… I look back, thinking of the people I’ve gone up against since my debut. Jamie Riott… Mercedes-Jane Debonair…” The sound of a film reel in a projector prefaces the void's shift from blinding brightness to pitch black as footage of Jamie Riott attacking Ada Pierce plays out, followed by footage of Jamie’s sadistic pleasure in using the barbed wire ropes to dissect Ada during their brutal match at First Class’ first-ever PPV “Malevolence”. As Ada silently watches the projection, the footage cuts to the heinous backstage assault she suffered at the hands of Mercedes-Jane and Casie Debonair, followed by Mercedes’ interference of Ada’s first-ever title match opportunity against Stephanie LaCroix. Ada scoffs, turning to face the camera as the projected footage continues to play behind her.“…I can’t help but think I was naive. I start to… agree with what the Sensei had to say. I start to believe what he had to say… maybe I was wrong.” The projector stops as Ada’s head drops, simply looking down at the ground as she stands in the middle of the dark void. “I would be foolish to not admit that I was lost when I started out in First Class. After being attacked by the Coven, I was angry, frustrated, but I didn’t know where to start. I put on a facade of strength to the world, but the truth… is I was scared. I knew I had to fight. Try to make my hunters feel like the hunted. It’s all you can do when they’ve got your back against the wall. But something happened… see, before joining the company, I’d watched every single episode of First Class and Monday Night Mayhem. When the Queen of the Ring tournament began, I was ecstatic. As a Karateka, I am no stranger to tournaments. But in the wrestling world, it felt like an impossibility to me that I would win one. If I was to ever end up in a tournament myself, I’d probably get knocked off in the first round. But even now, I think back to a competitor that made quite the impression on me mere weeks away from my debut.” Ada raises her head, facing the camera, the darkness giving way to the light stemming from the projector as it displays the footage of Solace Tatum standing in the ring across from Junko Souma during the Queen of the Ring finals.“Solace Tatum. After a hellacious match against Junko Souma, Solace managed to defeat her and become the Queen of the Ring. And almost immediately after her victory, the Coven attacked, dissecting Junko. Solace, despite proudly wearing her crown on the stage, could not simply stand idly by and watch this happen.” Ada turns to watch the footage of Mercedes and Steph laying waste to the injured Junko, moments before Solace ripped the crown off her head, listening to the fans cheering her on to do what’s right, before rushing to the ring to take on all three members of the Coven all by herself. We cut away from the medium shot of Ada and the footage to an extreme close-up of her smiling face, the footage casting light over her face in the darkness as Leana and Nyssa’s commentary is heard.Leana: “Solace is coming to Junko’s aid!”Nyssa: “I’m not sure this was the wisest move by Tatum’s part, but damn if it doesn’t make your heart sing!”We cut back to the medium shot of Ada as the footage behind her displays Solace handing out Tatum Bombs to every member of the Coven. Pierce turns to face us again as an unknown source of orange light slowly grows, reminiscent of a lonely flame in an empty desert.“Ever since I was targeted by the same women getting their asses handed to them by Solace behind me, I grew scared of looking back. But I was wrong. The very same man that claimed wrestling was nothing but mindless violence also said something to me back when I was incapable of controlling my emotions. After I defeated Wilhelm Screem on the first night of the Ice Crown Tournament, I couldn’t help but think of his words.” continues Ada, her eyes watering as a smile forms on her face.“He said…
“To truly move forward, one mustn’t ignore their previous mistakes. Life is about moving forward, but move forward without purpose and you risk becoming an aimless wanderer. One who believes they are moving forward, but in reality? They are lost. It’s important to stop and take the necessary step back.”
…and when I found myself lost in my darkness, those words made me go back and think of why I even injected myself into the world of professional wrestling. But when I convinced myself not to fear the past, I took that necessary step forward. And I remembered why I did what I did.”Ada turns around to watch the projected footage, now displaying her standing next to Solace Tatum in the ring as her friend, her partner, fighting alongside each other to end Mercedes-Jane Debonair’s reign of terror. Immediately following this night, we see Ada defeating Mercedes at First Class’ second PPV in December, “Noreaster”. “It isn’t all about a sadistic lust for violence. I realized this. Sometimes it is, but some women I’ve had the honour of sharing the ring with validated what I said to my Sensei before my debut. Women like Solace Tatum. Women like Stephanie LaCroix, who we just saw playing along with Mercedes’ evil plans, but would soon break out of her shell, becoming more than a puppet of evil, proudly winning the Evolution Championship against Denise DiMarco before defending it against the likes of Katia Fyre, myself and… ugh… Alessia Capello…” Ada’s straight-faced monologue almost goes off the rails as she thinks of Alessia Capello, a woman who, much like her, has quickly, aggressively climbed to the top of First Class’ main event scene. But unlike Ada, who fights with respect for her opponents, Alessia has proven that she will stop at nothing to break her opponents, mentally and physically, in a bid to corrupt and recruit them to the organization known as The Left Hand. Having just survived Mercedes-Jane and the Coven, Ada dreads the thought of having to deal with Capello and the Left Hand. But Ada doesn’t want to get ahead of herself. She still has a few things left to say before addressing her upcoming potential opponents in the tournament. She clears her throat before continuing as the background music by Quiet Quest ends.“In life, fighting is inevitable. We fight to achieve our dreams. We fight for our loved ones. Our happiness. This wrestling world… it’s no different. When I was a kid, I had my role models. Fictional heroes when I’d spend my days in the arcade and personal heroes when I’d walk into my Dojo. Two of the women you just saw, Solace Tatum and Stephanie LaCroix, are prime examples of people fighting for the right cause. And with the final night of the Ice Crown Tournament upon us, I hope to do just that. Fighting for a just cause. This is what drives me. At the risk of coming across as a narcissist, I wanna be on the other side of the equation. In August, I was the one on the other side of the TV, watching Solace Tatum become the Queen of the Ring. And so far, I’ve mainly talked First Class. But we’re days away from the second, final night of the Ice Crown Tournament. My wrestling world has grown bigger. Because five months later, five months since the day I sat at home, watching Solace become the Queen of the Ring… I will be the one in the ring… becoming the Ice Queen of IIW.” Suddenly, we briefly cut to a wide shot of Ada in the center of the frame as the darkness gives way to the neon blue light of the void, a thick layer of fog and smoke covering the Karateka’s feet. Cutting to a medium shot of Pierce, she smirks before continuing.“Don’t worry. We’re not done yet. I didn’t go through the trouble of infiltrating the Construct to deliver a TED Talk on the values of honour and respect and walk away. So without further ado… Shawn… Kelsey… Terry… Edda… Ethan…
…Alessia Capello. Ice Crown. It’s time to talk shop.”As Ada’s smirking face takes up the majority of the screen, we fade to black… before fading into a very familiar screen as very familiar music compliments it.
We cut back to the foggy, blue void as a grinning Ada Pierce, now clad in her Karate Gi, walks back into the frame as two shadowy figures stand in the distance behind her. “Stage 1: Shawn Wylde. Admittedly, you are the one I knew the least of, Shawn. But I’m nothing if not thorough. I saw what you did to Zachary Phoenix. It must have been nerve-wracking for him to go up against a veteran such as yourself, worried about the inevitable comparisons people draw between him and Anthony Phoenix. But you didn’t care. Stayed on the young Phoenix until… splat. Arachnophobia. Hell of a 450 Splash. If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve planned to come at you the way I did with Wilhelm Screem. But you’re not doing this to end careers.” Ada leans in closer to the camera as it slowly pans in on her serious, determined face.“Robin Vengeance, a woman I’m very familiar with, is your protege. If that’s the kind of woman you are capable of training, capable of inspiring, then that tells me all I need to know about the kind of man you are. A good man. One who wants to take care of me faster than you took care of Phoenix in hopes of getting to Alessia Capello, the woman that corrupted your protege. Trust me. I’m as angry as you are about what the Left Hand has done. I’m familiar with wrestling cults, and the Left Hand isn’t a group I’m willing to stand idly by and allow them to run amok in a place I call home. But only one of us can move on in this tournament. Only one of us can be declared the victor when we meet in the ring. But I am the only one who’s going to have to deal with the Left Hand this year, whether I like it or not. So come Night Two, Shawn… I’m gonna fight you. I’m gonna bow to you, giving you the respect you deserve… and I’m gonna beat you. But I promise you that I’m going to make Robin see the light. You have my word.” Ada retreats away from the camera before raising her hand, snapping her fingers as we cut to the next “Stage”.
We return to the “void” as Ada walks into the frame, a genuine smile on her face as she finally gets the chance to address a woman we all would be correct in assuming she’d be a fan of.“Stage 2: Kelsey Frost. I hope you know that I mean every word of this when I tell you that you delivered one of the best matches I’ve seen since the first time I stepped foot into a wrestling ring.” Ada pauses as footage of Frost’s incredible showing against Brandon Hendrix is projected, displaying a montage of Hendrix forcing everyone in attendance, the fans on his side and the ones who’re booing their lungs out, to believe the hype as he took Frost down with a beautiful dropkick, a brutal German Suplex, forcing Kelsey to pull out all the stops when she flew out of the ring with a dive, only to crash and burn after Hendrix avoided it. But this was the moment Kelsey had truly earned Ada’s respect. Against the odds, she brought it back, fighting through the brutal Big Boot courtesy of Hendrix, the vicious, unending onslaught he’d dished out. Somehow, someway, Frost landed her Bridled Rage finisher, planting Hendrix before pinning him, advancing to Night Two. We pan away from the projected footage as it dissipates into smoke as Ada Pierce is revealed deeply bowing out of respect for Frost’s incredible performance. The Karateka rises, a wide, inspired smile formed on her face as she applauds Kelsey for her grit, her heart.“It's like looking into a mirror. Walking into the ring, despite fans cheering you on, it’s always the negative voices that ring louder, right? The ones that heard everything you had to say to “The Based God, The Messiah, Brandon Fucking Hendrix” and laughed you off.“
“She said Brandon’s in for a rude awakening? Claimed he would make the mistake of looking past the wrong person? What a joke! Who is SHE to say that?“
I’ve heard it all, Kelsey.” Ada proudly, and somewhat angrily, explained as the smile faded from her visage.
“This Karate Kid wannabe thinks she can walk into a Barbed Wire Rope match against Jamie Riott and survive? Jamie’s gonna eat her alive! This girl that looks like a 12-year-old dropped off for Karate class by her mom thinks she can defeat a literal Monster Hunter in Wilhelm Screem?“
Heard it all, Kelsey. Pains me to say, you’re gonna keep hearing it. But not from me. I’m proud of you for shutting the naysayers up, something I’ve grown used to doing. As for you… you’re the future. A rare, pure-hearted warrior looking to make a name for yourself by proving you’re the better fighter against whoever you step into the ring with. I cannot put into words the joy I felt watching you do your thing. A breath of fresh air after all the psychopaths I’ve had to survive and fight for my life against. And trust me… it’s my respect for you that’s going to inspire me to bring you the very best version of myself. The version of myself I present to my students right there.” Ada, with a proud smile, turns to point at the shadowy figure in the distance as the camera rushes past her to display the man’s abilities. Abilities he’s inherited from the Karateka.
The camera swoops back to Ada as stares directly into it, making her intentions as clear as possible, leaning in before continuing to address Kelsey Frost.“Before the anger-fueled rivalries started, this is what it was all about for me. A display of one’s skills, one’s heart. And I can see that this is what fuels you too, Frost. That’s the kind of fuel that’s going to end with us stealing the show and none of the others on the West Bracket. Hearing you claim that you admire me, that you respect me… it’s funny. Because I admire you just as much. And I don’t simply plan to come in there and give it my all. I want to help you. Prepare you for the evil that’s coming your way. Because if you beat me, and I’m aware that you are more than capable of doing just that, you are going to have to deal with one final obstacle. And it may be unlikely, but there is a chance… a chance that your final obstacle will be Alessia Capello…” Ada’s face turns sour as she balls her hand into a fist, her mind racing. Racing with visuals of Alessia taking advantage of young Kelsey’s pure outlook on the wrestling business. A mirror of Ada’s past self, the version that was tortured by Riott, beaten down by Mercedes-Jane Debonair. In her mind, Ada feels that Kelsey isn’t ready to be exposed to such darkness, especially on a night where she must defeat the Karateka before she can make it to the finals. With concern in her eyes, Ada looks up at the camera.“Alessia… represents everything I've endured to make it this far. She represents the vile, sadistic side of this industry. The one that sucks the light out of you only to leave you wallowing in the darkness until the darkness moulds you into a former shadow of yourself. And Kelsey… I know you’ve got it what it takes to survive her. But I don’t know if you can survive Capello's attempt at indoctrinating you. I believe in you. I want to believe you can defeat me and go on to put Capello in her place… But I don’t wanna take that chance. I refuse to take that chance.” the Karateka states as bluntly as she can, the screen slowly zooming closer to her face.“This is what’s going to motivate me to not pull a single punch, not a single kick when I meet you in the ring, Kels’. I have to try and prevent Capello from getting her hands on you if that ends up being the finals. But I know, when we meet again in First Class, whether it be against or fighting alongside each other, I’m going to be proud to call you my friend. When the Left Hand inevitably comes after you, I’ll have your back. Ready yourself, Frost. Because I am.” A faint smile forms on Ada’s face, growing as we fade back to the Mortal Kombat-esque ladder screen. We return to the void, finding Ada sitting on the ground, legs crossed in the middle of the fog. “The Final Stage. Marshall… Wilcox… Rivers… Capello. Four potential opponents standing between me and the Ice Crown. I’ll start with the legend himself, Terry Marshall. Terry… I’m sure if I find myself in the ring with you, my old man’s gonna be rooting against me. You defeated Curtis, a man I’ve been looking forward to facing in that ring ever since I joined this company. Guess you were right. Curtis had everything he needed except for good luck or timing. And unfortunately for you, brother… you’ve run out that good luck and good timing yourself, dude. Your experience, your knowledge, the power of Thundermania. It won’t help you. Because if you find yourself in the finals against me, you’ll realize that the woman standing before you is a Thundermaniac herself. Thundermania will be behind both of us. What makes you strong, in turn, will make me even stronger, dude.” Smirking, Ada rises to her feet, pulling off a Thundermania-esque pose, winking at the camera before it whizzes past her to reveal a projection of footage from Ada’s bout against Denise DiMarco, shortly before it transitions from the Karateka throwing a kick at Denise to the finish of Edda’s fight against the self-proclaimed Face of IIW as she lands the Burning Hammer for the win. Cutting back to Ada, who’s done embracing her inner Thundermaniac with all the posing, applauding Edda Wilcox for her victory.“Well done, Ed. Speaking from personal experience, DiMarco isn’t someone to take lightly, as tempting as it is to do so against her. Too busy worrying about her brand, her presence on social media. But as you’re well aware, she can catch you off-guard and push you to the limit. I’m impressed. Seeing Grimjack in your corner… kinda made me wish that I had my Sensei in my corner as well… until I gave it much thought and realized that all it would do is add to the pressure. It didn’t take long for me to realize that your mentor is encouraging you to move closer and closer to the dark side, hoping you break your opponents. I’m sorry to disappoint, but many have tried and every single one of them failed when they tried that on me. Although you underestimated Denise, you managed to pick up the victory. No easy feat. But trust me when I tell you… underestimate me, try to resort to sheer brutality to beat me? You will lose your head.” Grinning, Ada slaps her leg, warning Edda that a swift kick could seal the deal when they face-off in the ring. Finally, with two more competitors left unaddressed, footage behind Ada displays highlights of Ethan Rivers’ short, albeit incredibly impressive career. An excited, hungry smile forms on the face of Pierce as she addresses Ethan.“Ethan Rivers. I’ve been watching you. In such short time, you’ve found yourself on the rise with a target on your back. Hungry, dominant, yet to be pinned, submitted, just like me. Guaranteed championship match that you earned at Red Alert, just like the Evolution championship match I earned at Noreaster. I see you. Seen you fly off the ropes and decapitate Scotty Adams with the Glimmering Warlock. Seen you tap Ryan McCann out with your Cuomo Clutch… But I know you’ve seen me too. Seen me kick Mercedes’ head off. Seen me beat Wilhelm Screem down with quick and accurate strikes. You know… ever since I signed my IIW contract, I’ve always wanted to jump ship to Mayhem for a little bit. Test myself against you lot. Hell, one of the main reasons that drove me to sign up for this tournament was because it was the one opportunity I had since coming here to face off against wrestlers from the other side. And I couldn’t have picked a better opponent myself. If you manage to defeat the leader of Thundermania himself, I’ve no doubt in my mind that I will you see in the finals. And what a visual that would be…” Ada begins to pace back and forth as her students spar in the background, their shadowy figures going back-and-forth as she licks her lip, continuing with shaky excitement in her voice.“Mayhem Vs. First Class. Ethan Rivers Vs. Ada Pierce. The only difference between us is that you haven’t had to deal with a psychotic cult of witches before two of them broke away from their leader, claiming they were doing her bidding until they saw the light. The moral dilemmas I’ve had to deal with… it strengthens you. This is what I’ve had to deal with, Ethan. You’ve had the fortune of showing up and displaying your expertise and your craft before leaving with no drama. I haven’t had that privilege. This is why… in my humble opinion… if we face off in the finals? I’ll walk out with my hand raised.” Breaking away from her almost-cocky demeanour, the Karateka throws her hands up, making sure she’s crystal clear in the message she wants to send to Mayhem’s fastest rising star.“But! Credit where credit’s due: you are one good wrestler. A warrior. A badass fit to lead Mayhem in 2022, much like I plan to lead First Class. With honour. And if we walk into the ring in the finals… I know we are going to tear the house down.” Suddenly, Ada’s smiling face turns to static as the Left Hand’s logo covers the screen. After a few seconds, the screen cuts back to Ada’s students. One of them lunges in with a left strike, only for the other to swiftly dodge it, reaching back, grabbing his arm and tossing him over his head, finishing him off with a brutal kick to the chest that sends him crashing down to the foggy ground.Cutting back to Ada standing away from the action, a serious, near-murderous look forms on her face as the green and blue lighting of the void turns dark red. “If Kelsey represents the bright future… you represent the dark version of the future, Alessia Capello. You had some nerve bringing me up. I’ve heard everything you’ve said about me. This sick, twisted obsession you have with corrupting the women you face in the ring. Ever since your debut against Ichunko, a woman that clearly forfeited, not wanting anything to do with you… I’ve been paying close attention to you. Your disgusting actions, attacking the poor girl until they had to forcibly stop you… you make me sick. And if that wasn’t enough, you dared to recruit someone like Robin Vengeance to your demented cause. That shit don’t fly with me, Capello.” With fire in Ada's eyes, the camera zooms in on her face.“Kelsey… I hope you’re listening. When I debuted, I made a mistake. I was vulnerable, let my guard down. That’s when insecure bullies like Mercedes attack. That’s when bullies like Alessia attack. I won’t make that mistake. So… Ice Crown. First Class. It doesn’t matter to me, Miss Left Hand. I’m gonna kick your head in. Come for me or anyone else in this company to try and corrupt and I’ll kick your bloody head in. What you just saw back there? They learned it from me. Your size doesn’t scare me. Your left hand doesn’t scare me. If you try and put me to sleep with it, I’ll just dodge and kick your goddamned head in. And just like I said to Mercedes, I’ll make it crystal goddamn clear to you too. If I see you in the finals… and you try to target me after I beat you… I will make sure that I will be the last person you ever target out of malice. Because I am the wrong fucking woman to fuck with.” The camera lingers on Ada’s fiery eyes for a few moments… before we fade to black as the video ends.
