Failure.
Some people could accept it. Eventually, it was something that plagues us all in some form, one of those things that as much as it sucks to admit can not be avoided. Other people found it to be something that haunted them on a near daily basis, try s hard as they could they just could never seem to get over the hump and accidentally stumble their way into successful adventures. There are certain sports teams that have all but made failure their whole identity, fanbases where any crumb of success were so few and far between that they had dubbed themselves factories of sadness, and it was not entirely hyperbole.
All of this is to simply say there were some people who found themselves with the ability to, in some way shape, or form accept failure to varying degrees, This is not a story of one of those people.
“I don’t get you people, man.”
Our picture opens up into light, which is somewhat of a rarity for the angry voice that can be heard just a little but off screen. There are loud, heavy footsteps can be heard offscreen approaching and then with a loud bang a figure paces back and forth across the camera screen, dipping in and out of video as he panted heavily. Still off screen various murmurs can be heard, wherever this rant seemed to be taking place the only thing that was quite clear is he was not safe and alone in the comfort of his own home. Whatever had happened, things were about to be made everyone’s problem.
“For about a year and a half now, give or take I’ve been around this company. I’ve preached myself to be an honest man, so you can know that maybe I’m not going to tell you things you like hearing, but you can take comfort in knowing that whatever I say is going to be a necessary truth. I kept my head down, tried to keep to myself, not make any enemies, wait patiently for opportunities that SHOULD be mine to begin with–”
There’s the sound of a solid thump and a bang, someone either pounded on a door or on the other side of the wall to try and get his attention, which is successful just long enough to cut off a rant that had been heard once before at length. Instead, our long haired film star scoffs, running a hand through the dreads that obscure his face as he pushes them out of the way and clasps his hands together.
“None of that matters. The point is, I go out, I call myself the last honest man but never once have I preached myself as some moral authority, so you can imagine my scurprise, see when this past Monday on Mayhem, when I was wrestling a guy who’s been been in the company long enough to take a shower and is still getting a global title match for reasons I don’t understand, the people boo mee, and they cheer a scumbag like Jesse James.” He can’t help himself, it’s been about a week and this apparent moral outrage has done little
“You can say ‘Trent, you can’t put it all on the people’, and , though they don’t deserve it fair is fair. Some of these people can’t be trusted to book a doctor’s appointment, much less a pay-per-view card. The real problem with things is that Osh Vaughan has once again showed that he has not learned from is mistakes that led to this company taking a hiatus in the first damned place!”
Hi boss. He tries to take a few deep breaths, in an attempted to get himself other
“I came back to IIW when it reopened, without a second thought. Not asking for a damned thing which: fair. That one is on me. I told myself, I told everyone things were gonna be different this time and yet I fell into the same old habits the last time I was here. I was being booked to wrestle geeks and I was just silently accepting it, and people who don’t deserve it are getting things that weren’t gifted to me. There was no press release when Trent Darby signed back with this company. I didn’t get a globab title match just for putting my name on a piece of paper. Trent Darby didn’t step foot into the building and find himself in a TV Ttitle number one contender’s match.”
But he wasn’t bitter or jealous, no sir.
“Not even going into these questionable horing practices. You brought back a guy who’s walking around, thinking he’s a sea pirate. Your TV title is being held by a guy who calls himself Jack Mehoff like we’re twelve on the damned schoolyard, at this point any day now Florida Man is going to come back, make this a real geek company.”
Make sure to watch last season of Friday Night Combat if you missed the wacky adventures of Florida Man, ladies and gentlemen
“I said when I came back, thingsthings were going to be different. And it’s never been more clear that IIW needs a culture change. That change, like it or not ladies and gentlemen, will start this Monday. When Andre Cash- Which,”
Surprising himself more than anybody else, Trent finds himself being drawn towards the real target of what he was supposed to be saying. Andre Cash, a very big, very strong man. A man who has held gold before in this company before .
“...I can say a lot of things about people in this company, but Adrew; this ain’t personal my man. See, you’re just the first stone placed in the way in the path to change. I don’t got anything else against you, really but the fact remains that if I want to bring about real change, than this monday at Mayhem, when we meet, things are going to have to happen. Things I can not, and will not apologize for doing. I am Charm City’s Chosen. I am the last honest man in IIW, hell the only honest man in professional wrestling today so Andre, you can believe me that this isn’t personal. This is just what the change looks like.”
