Better? A word that he found that should be completely erased from the world's vocabulary as a whole because sometimes that word implied that neither person was but for today, well that was still the case as he took a second and leaned back. It was his therapist appointment of the year because since he had came back to IIW she wanted to know how he was doing. His usual answer was fine because to him he was and while he had not yet went ahead and alerted all of his hundreds of thousands of followers about his return match he was getting ready for it. Over the course of him being gone so long he had also learned to focus all of his energy into true training which was good.
As he waited he found the normal empty journal now able to have words written in it so he started with the simplest of ones. "Bravery," he echoed out but still wondered how he could follow up such a word with feelings as this one had. None the less he did the one thing he should not do and opened up his phone instead of going on his thoughts about bravery, there in all of it's glory was his notification. "Me versus Jimmy Brooks," he said. That was something that he thought needed real reflection.
He was well aware coming back into a situation like this that Maverick was weirdly enough the new guy though his history with IIW could be well spotted out through the course of the company. Maverick had never been the type to not give all of his wrestling ability when in a match and this one he did not think that it would be any different. "My therapy sessions seem to be the one thing that has not changed much during my hiatus but in these empty sessions I do find myself doing my best reflecting." He did have a lot to say, but more than that he had a lot of thoughts and it, well that was where it became hard even sometimes impossible to figure it all out but no, he would and should be able to get through this.
"At first I had aligned myself with second coming and I loved that, those are still my guys but I stand alone now so you see for me Mr. Brooks there is no second coming any longer just me out here on my own, small, timid but in my own opinion very strong wings. Now I am no bird though my time on X is hilarious I must admit, so even with this match it is once again different. The view point, even the ups and downs of if I still have it in me to do this with nothing helping or hindering me." He slightly put his index finger under his chin in a moment of thought. "Which is the best thing that could happen to me. You see this time around I want to be known for more than I was last time and I feel that the best way for that to happen is for me to be here in IIW as I am, alone."
It was not meant as a sign of disrespect to his friends that had came with him, no he had mad respect for those guys but eras ended. Something he knew very much a good bit about before now but the thoughts of what if could still play along every once in a while. "Not going to bullshit you Brooks, we both know how it works, who wants it more and everything under the sun as this type of career stands." It was nothing to be dismissive of the state of mind that it had put him in. He looked up at the door, waiting perhaps out of his need for social interaction for it to open and yet still nothing so as per his usual he left, leaving the place for his written thoughts behind too but making sure to tell the receptionist he'd return next week.
He did as he normally did took the back entrance around these days because with that social media blow up had came the damn paparazzi all with the same question of did he mean what he said to the current champ of IIW after all his time off, of course he did mean it though the rumor was that Crush no longer went by that name, no matter it was the same person and most importantly around his waist he held what Maverick had always believed was is but it had to be earned so no jumping ahead, no we run a steady, slow, and powerful race around here something Mr. Brooks would soon learn. Finding his way into his apartment finally the sounds of peace were welcomed as he sprawled out across the sofa.
"I will be the first to admit that I am a bit rusty so once we do step into the ring I am sure that all of that will melt away as smooth as butter." At least that was his hope that once he could hear the crowd, it, those meaningless people whether they chose to boo or cheer him would give him the small incentive needed to remember all of his natural skills, but realistically Maverick knew that there was always a ninety seven percent chance that he would fall flat on his face right there on the mat and experience embarrassment too; yet it was that same thought that brought a smile to his face. Getting the people talking would always be that slight thrill that no one would ever know.
Back however to the subject at hand. "Now the question is how to capture the win, because like with all opponents I end up facing Mr. Brooks I am not going to look over you or give you the benefit of the doubt and assume I will be better because the one thing I have learned in all of my time is that is a terrible mistake to make, no it's quite simply a task at hand and win or lose my next goal is clear." However he was not jumping the race off to that just yet as he had stated earlier. "I'm wondering if this match between us deserves a live feed hype up." As much as he had matured, he did still love getting sucked into the world of internet trolls and simply watching them pretend that their keyboard warrior thoughts mattered. "No, I do not think I will tell them who you are and then have my followers bash you. I don't promote internet bullying after all." Seriously what the hell was the fun in that, he'd never understand it.
He felt that everything that they needed to say was going to be said in the ring and that was the best way. He had always wanted the same few things when he was in IIW and it never changed. Challenges, Gold, To Be Known. The order that these three things came did not matter but they were in his sights and match by match, it'd be true, so he hoped.

“A maverick is an unorthodox or independent minded person”
Jimmy Brooks walked onto the screen chewing a piece of gum with a shit eating grin displayed on his face . Jimmy’s hands were behind his back.
“Isn’t it ironic that my opponent on Maybem is named Maverick Tatum but he is the guy who is facing off against a true maverick! I’m the ONLY professional wrestler that can claim to have BOTH of these bad boys”
Jimmy’s arms swung from behind his back to display a four inch plastic action figure of Kamala and Hulk Hogan.
”That’s right, a mail away Hasbro Hulk Hogan and a crescent moon bellied Hasbro Kamala! How many other people have these in their personal collection? I know Maverick Tatum is lacking in that area and that’s a big part of the reason why he will be in the ring against the maverick, ironic since his name is quite literally…Maverick. I’m sure he’s heard it all before, he’s a bland mundane character and he’s got absolutely nothing going for him other than his name. So, The Toy Boy, will go ahead and show Mr.Tatum what it’s like to share the ring with a maverick! It’s time for the IIW to witness the growth of Jimmy Brooks into a championship caliber athlete. I can’t wait until Osh Vaughan announces his first figure line—I just know I’ll be included, probably as the World Champion because that’s where this guy is headed!”
