An Invitation to Defeat.
[The scene opens to the outside of the "Vogue" building, where Kaitlyn had just finished her FaceTime call with her best friend, and possible opponent for the FCPW Women's championship, Victoria McKenzie. She stands in the parking lot, attired in a white t-shirt, jeans and black "Converse'' sneakers, she smiles. Gently laughing to herself at the fact Victoria insisted on her bringing her A-Game, should it be them who face off for the belt.]
What do you take me for, Vic? I love you, but you should know I'm not gonna take it easy on you, if we step into that ring against one another. [She smiles, beginning to make her way to the car] It wouldn't be right or fair for either of us. We might love one another, but I think you and I both want to know which one of us is the better half in the ring. [She laughs to herself, noting mentally that people might twist that the wrong way.] So, you'll be getting my best. Just like I want you to bring yours, if it is us.
[She wanders over to her car, getting in. Alone, as Kasey told her that he wanted to go and clear his mind. Consider a few things in the build up to his shot at Bam Miller and the Hollywood Championship. Plus, they'll both see one another back at the hotel room. As a plus, it means that Kaitlyn doesn't have to deal with his needlessly slow driving; allows her to go the speed limit for once, rather than five to ten miles under it. Strapping the seatbelt in, she shuts the door, before beginning to drive off, as the scene fades.] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, Cora.
[The scene re-opens to an energetic greeting from Kaitlyn, as she sits at a table within what appears to be a downtown Manchester coffee shop. A cup of coffee positioned in front of her, as she smiles. Attired in a white "Chaos Valkyrie" t-shirt, denim jeans and black leather boots as she takes another sip of her coffee. Making an "mmm" sound with her lips.]
I'm sorry it has to be you. [She remarks, softly smiling] I'm sorry that you have to be the first woman to learn about just what I am capable of between those ropes. That you are the name that Nicole pulled out of her rabbit hat to be paired against me.
[She takes another sip of coffee, trying to put a finger on where she had heard the name Nicole before. Though nothing immediately comes to mind. She vaguely knows the name, and will probably place it later.]
See, against anybody else, you would have a chance. AN opportunity to progress to the second round. To have a shot at taking on my beautiful best friend, and our FCPW Women's Champion, Victoria McKenzie. Unfortunately however, you drew the short straw. You drew the only opponent that can, and will, bring you to your knees. That can, and will, leave you embarrassed and wishing that you had never agreed to enter the tournament. That you had never made the decision to become a wrestler in the first place.
[Kaitlyn smiles, tilting her head slightly to her right.]
That, of course, being me. See, Cora. I'm not like anyone else in this tournament. I don't need to hide my intentions and make you believe I'm this nice person. That I have this moral code that I must stick to, no matter what. Nah, fuck that. I am who I am. I am here because I know I am the best in that ring. My name has been associated with success. My name has been associated with being superior in that ring. Of making sure that people like you, who like to hide behind their boyfriends and have them convince them that they can make it. That they are as good as they claim, understand the pecking order. Realize that the truth is: they simply don't stack up when compared to the upper echelon of talent. That they fall short when compared to people like me or our lovely champion Victoria.
[Kaitlyn straightens her head, as she takes another sip of her coffee.]
That's okay though. Every top tier needs a tier under it, to keep us on our toes. Make sure that we don't rest on our laurels and let people believe that they actually have a chance in the ring against us. They don't. [She laughs.] They never did and they never will have a chance. Not as long as I'm here. Not as long as we're here. We'll make sure the scraps are tasty enough for you though, I promise. Don't want you going hungry now, do we?
[She smiles sweetly.]
I am benevolent after all. I'm not as mean as people like to make me out to be. I care about you, which is why I'm willing to give you some advice, Cora. That is... lay down on the 12th. Just lay down on the mat and I promise that you'll be able to go home to Rogue in one piece, with your ego and spirit still in tact. Otherwise, I cannot be held responsible for what may happen, should you elect not to take me up on my generous offer.
[She laughs, as the scene fades with her finishing up her cup of coffee.] ---
[The scene opens to Kaitlyn, attired in a black University of Georgia hooded sweatshirt, black/red/white tracksuit pants and black "Nike" sneakers, sitting inside of her hotel room atop her bed. In her hands, is a copy of Maxim magazine, that she had posed for back in January, when she had been looking for her break in wrestling. It was part of their "women of the future" photoshoot, something that she obviously fit the bill of. Smiling, she admires herself before closing the magazine and placing it to her right and glancing around the room. Kasey has gone out to get the pair dinner and she has a meeting with Victoria in the morning. She smiles, laying back and looking up at the ceiling.]
Dad, I told you I would live up to your legacy. I told you I would surpass your legacy. [She smiles.] I will. Soon, the name they will be associating with us, is me.
[She laughs, knowing that it is still an uphill battle for her to achieve that. Twenty-three world titles and multiple secondary belts is the mountain she must climb. That doesn't include any future titles her dad might win.]
I still remember the day you allowed me to step into the training ring for the first time. I wish it had been sooner, but you wanted to protect me. Though I think you can see I didn't need you to. [She softly laughs.] I still don't. Yet I know you'll be watching me. Smiling that I'm making my way in this industry. That I'm making my own name for myself, alongside Victoria. [She softly lets out a breath.] Soon, we'll be the queen bees of IIW.
[The hotel room door slowly swings open, as Kasey's figure comes into view. Holding two paper bags of Indian food.]
Dinner's here.
[She smiles.] Long queue?
Not really. I had to do a few media releases. Being Hollywood Champion and all. [He laughs, placing the food onto the table.] Plus, it's your favorite.
[She laughs, sitting up before rising and making her way over to the table.]
Which one's mine?
[Kasey motions to the one on the left side, as Kaitlyn grabs it. Placing a kiss on his right cheek.]
Thanks hun.
You're welcome.
[He grabs his own bag, before sitting down atop the black leather chair as Kaitlyn saunters back to the bed. The scene fades as she prepares to eat her dinner.]
